JUNE 16 1997 DAY

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic talked in Banjaluka with the secretary of the Department for Development at the Britain Government, John Wereker, about the preparations for the holding of a Donors' conference and the ODA's activities in RS. A communique issued by the RS presidential cabinet says that the talks were focused on the conditions to be met for the participation at the Donors' conference scheduled for June 24 and 25th in Brussels. It was also pointed out that the provisions of the Dayton Agreement must be strictly and consistently implemented so that the international community's aid would be freely distributed to RS and the Federation of B&H.

SARAJEVO - The president from Republika Srpska in the Presidency of B&H, Momcilo Krajisnik, stated, after the talks with representatives of the World Bank and its executive director Koch Weiser, that 'a solution was finally reached on how to meet the liabilities towards the World Bank and find means to settle the same'. 'We clarified the main problem i.e. the entire liabilities of RS and the Federation of B&H have yet to be established', stated Krajisnik, specifying: 'Since it is unknown how extensive are the RS liabilities, we agreed to that they are to be settled through the consultations with the Federation of B&H and the World Bank.

SOKOLAC - The building of an airport was commenced at Brezyak, near Sokolac. Top political and military leadership of Republika Srpska, a delegation of the General Staff of the Army of Yugoslavia, representatives of the municipalities of the Sarajevo-Romaniya, Upper Drina and Bircanski regions as well as a great number of citizens attended the initial works. The Prime Minister Gojko Klickovic stated that the airport is to be at the height of 865,5 m. A 3,050m long runway, a 890 m long emergency taxiway, a terminal platform and a terminal complex with all the needed equipment for a modern airport will be in the composition of the airport.

SARAJEVO - A Military Committee must be an advisory body of the Presidency of B&H, and not a body issuing certain orders, as the others have imagined, believes the RS minister of defence, Milan Ninkovic. He confirmed that the meeting of the Military Committee will be continued within two days, and until then the representatives of all the parties are to present their objections in a written form.

SARAJEVO - As of June 20, SFOR will conduct a training of its troops in Yayce and Glamoc, stated the SFOR spokesman, Tony White. 'More than 500 troops, a certain number of helicopters and armoured vehicles are to be involved in the drill. The drill will be similar to the one carried out by SFOR units in the Srbinye area, explained White at a press conference held in Lukavica.

SARAJEVO - The UNHCR deputy spokeswoman, Ariane Quentier, stated that Gornyi Vakuf, Kupres and Zepce are especially interested in a concept of open cities, which will be dealt with by the UN this year, while Busovaca declared itself as an open town. 'The UNHCR will, in return, animate donors for the repairing of houses in these towns, thus making it possible for refugees to return there where they will be minority', stressed Quentier at a press conference in Lukavica. As she said, the UNHCR will also intensively fight for the return of Serbs to Drvar, since this was a Serb city. There is also a similar project for the Grahovo area.

SARAJEVO - Two days ago it was announced that the Higher Court in Sarajevo had dismissed a request for a retrial to Sretko Damyanovic who was sentenced to death by the District Military Court on March 12, 1993, because of the alleged crimes committed against civilians in 1992. After he found out that Damyanovic's 'victims' - the brothers, Kasim and Asim Blekic, are alive and that Ramiz Kreso was killed in a battle in the village of Krsa, Damyanovic's attorney, Branko Maric, submitted an appeal to the Higher Court on renewing of a court procedure against Damjanovic, on December 9, 1996.

SARAJEVO - There is no Army of B&H any longer, because an ideological army of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) was made out of it, stated the former commander of this army, Sefer Halilovic, for the latest edition of 'Slobodna Bosna'. Halilovic added that at a time when he served it could not have happened to the 3rd Corps Command to publish a book titled 'Mezhebi in Islam', but to publish guidance books about mines.
