[02] The office of Labor Minister is demanded by PNTCD - Christian Democratic National Peasants Party

This political party is now demanding that one of the members of PNTCD be assigned to the office of Minister of Labor after Mrs. Smaranda Dobrescu resigned as her party, PSDR merges with PDSR. Spokesman Remus Opris said the leaders of PNTCD will have consultations within the National Leadership Council then with the Prime Minister and the representatives of the coalition parties in order to designate a new Labor Minister.

    [03] Regional power forum - FOREN 2000

The second regional forum of power FOREN 2000 on the theme TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE LIBERALIZED MARKETS OF POWER opened at Constanta on Sunday in the presence of the minister of industry and trade Radu Berceanu and the secretary general of the World Power Council Gerard Dusset. The session is organized by the Romanian National Power Committee and the World Power Council under the patronage of the president of Romania. FOREN 2000 rallies specialists from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Industry and trade minister Radu Berceanu told the guests that the Cabinet of Bucharest passes an emergency ordinance reading that VAT for power costs is reduced from 19 to 10 per cent in conditions in which the units and companies that do not meet the cost requirements are taken out of the system. Romania also intends to complete work at the second unit of the Cernavoda atom power plant and build several coal burning units as well as putting the finishing touches at a number of hydropower units.

[04] Danube was unblocked but the barges and the other ships remain in the area

The first to pass was the Bulgarian tug boat HILINDARSKI and the Ukrainian convoy KAPITAN BUSHKOV. The first was going upstream while the second was coming downstream. Ship owners and operators plus sailors will resume blocking of the river if they are not happy with the results of the talks their representatives have with Prime Minister Isarescu today. River ship owners and operators are requesting that repairs be made in the area of Novisad where the ruins of the bridge hinder navigation and practically block traffic while the Ministry of Finance continues to get taxes as if trade and navigation unfold in normal conditions on the river Danube.

[05] The Ninth edition of the international seminar THE ROMANIAN LANGUAGE - MEANS OF RADIO COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION

The press center of the ROMANIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION hosts the ninth edition of the international seminar THE ROMANIAN LANGUAGE - MEANS OF RADIO COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION with the participation of managers, editors and programme makers of 25 radio stations on all continents that broadcast in Romanian. The opening festivity took place in the morning at the press conter of RADIO ROMANIA which was named after the man that, among others, initiated this seminar, the first director general of THE ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION after December 1989, Eugen Preda.

The opening speech was delivered by Doru Ionescu, deputy director general of RADIO ROMANIA and head of RADIO ROMANIA INTERNATIONAL who welcomed all the guests and the participating hosts. Among other things Doru Ionescu said that debated are themes linked to the language, culture and history of the Romanian language; one of the aims of the seminar is the establishment of partnership in radio programme making to the benefit of all listeners.

The debates of the seminar take the participants from Bucharest on to Arad and Hunedoara and then to Hungary (as this seminar is a first in cooperation between Romanian and Hungarian national public radio organizations) to Szegedin and Gyula where there are Romanian language regional stations of RADIO BUDAPEST as there is a large Romanian community living in that area of neighboring Hungary. Mr. Ionescu concluded his introductory remarks by saying that he hoped the debates would contribute to the strengthening of the strategies of partnership between RADIO ROMANIA and any as well as all of the radio organizations represented at the ninth edition of the seminar ROMANIAN LANGUAGE - MEANS OF RADIO COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION.

The Director General of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION Andrei Radu Dimitriu was then introduced to the audience at the EUGEN PREDA Press Center of our corporation and he delivered the first paper of the sympozium under the heading MISSION AND TARGET OF THE ROMANIAN LANGUAGE PROGRAMMES. In the following we give you a fragment of the presentation. Andrei Radu Dimitriu, Director General of RADIO ROMANIA said among other things: " It is an important event for all of us the radio people that participate in and attend this seminar and sympozium. We suggest and promote radio partnership that should contribute to the strengthening of better communication and knowledge of all radio listeners of Romanian language programmes. Naturally these Romanian speaking listeners live in various countries which makes them partake of different cultural environments. The follow up of the process of globalization which is favored by the information highway is cultural interaction which becomes deeper and more rapid. The world in which we live and work is ever more diversified while the risk of loosing one's own identity increases in the natural effort of all individuals to be integrated in a system which is validated by the democratic civilized regions of our world. May I quote here Doctor Michael Neumann, secretary of state with the Federal Chancellory of Germany, also responsible for media and culture, who said that culture must be understood as a civilizing activity which must be renewed all the time by the positive contribution of all communities irrespective of the fact that they might represent minoritary or majoritary cultures as they all are as valuable. Each people has its own language and cultural model, this is known by all. However, in this context I would like to recall that the Romanian philosopher Noica has said that language is not only language, it is thought and conscience and horizon, it is spontaneity and creativity. It is by your language that you are and are active from the cultural point of view, in the political and social spheres as well ". Then the Director General of RADIO ROMANIA referred to the importance of the big radio stations representating big radio organizations and their role in maintaining hope in the hearts of the people of this country after which he imparted to the radio people that attended the first day of the seminar some of the projects of the Administration Council to modernize and move forward with the time all the activities unfolded at RADIO ROMANIA. Mr. Dimitriu then spoke about the necessity of cooperation and collaboration so that the listeners of the Romanian language programmes broadcast by the 25 represented radio stations should answer the expectations of all radio listeners to the highest possible level.

Then spoke the representative of the Government of Romania, Viorel Badea, secretary of state, head of the Department for relations with the Romanians living outside the borders of Romania.

The other themes of the sympozium today are DEVELOPMENT OF RADIO PARTNERSHIP, A ROMANIAN - ROMANIAN RELATIONSHIP, BUILDING AN INSTITUTION, CULTURE AND HISTORY OF ROMANIA OR CULTURE AND HISTORY OF THE ROMANIANS.

The debates and trips of the Ninth edition of the international seminar THE ROMANIAN LANGUAGE - MEANS OF RADIO COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION have just begun and they will conclude on 17 September.
