    [02] Alianta Civica - Civil Alliance - supports the candidacy of Mugur Isarescu to Presidency

    Civil Alliance supports the candidacy of Mugur Isarescu to Presidency by all its branches all over the country and this means that signatures are being gathered in at the seats of the Alliance and by teams that travel around. The Civil Alliance supports the candidacy of Mugur Isarescu as an independent personality as the Alliance itself considers it is an independent association that belongs to no party.

    [03] Leadership of ANCD - Christian Democratic National Alliance - joins CDR 2000

    Part of the leadership of ANCD decided that this political party should join the Romanian Democratic Convention as a separate entity. The decision which was made by the man who created the party, former Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea, also former member of PNTCD, has led to the resignation from ANCD of seven members of the leadership of the party among whom Senator Serban Sandulescu and the Boila brothers. The persons that resigned are saying that by siding with those political parties that actually by their attitude brought about the creation of ANCD this latter party simply looses identity. Victor Ciorbea has said that negociations for places on the lists of CDR 2000 begin today.

    [04] United States Ambassador James Rosapepe together with his wife are visiting county Vrancea

    The United States Ambassador and Mrs. Rosapepe have continued their visit to Moldova and were the guests of county Vrancea on Sunday. After having visited the county seat which is the town of Focsani and having met with the town population at Piata Unirii - Union Square - in downtown Focsani, the guests accompanied by prefect Ionut Constantinescu went to the village of Vidra. It was there that the Ambassador asked a number of questions referring to Romanian woods and wished to have the opinion of the citizens of the area about the prospects of Romanian - United States relations. At the Galaciuc Camp the Ambassador and Mrs. Rosapepe attended a show of the children that are spending their vacation there and were impressed by the exhibition of masks and wood sculpture. The meeting with the children ended with an attractive show entitled AMERICA 2000.

    [05] ROMANIAN IRS information tour

    The Ministry of Finance of Romania was the place where from the caravan of information on the taxes on global revenue started its tour of Romania with a first stop over at Craiova , western Romania. The tour lasts for two weeks and ends at Constanta, on the Black Sea Cost of Romania.

    [06] Wave of heat strikes again

    Drought and excessive heat continue by 23 August with temperatures of up to 39 Celsius. The Weather Institute and the Ministry of Health are advising the very young and those that suffer of heart conditions to protect themselves and stay inside. The Ambulance service of Bucharest had 800 calls yesterday and no major casualty because of the heat.

    First vicepresident of the Christian Democratic National Peasant Party Ioan Muresan goes to the town of Iasi to have talks with the metropolitan bishop of Moldova, Daniel.

    Press conferences of the following political parties: UFD - at noon, at the seat of the party, the Agrarian Social Party and the Pensioners' Party at 13:00.

    Executive Central Bureau of PDSR meets at the seat of the party.

    The President of Partidul Moldovenilor, Constantin Simirad, is attending the meeting of CDR 2000 at the Parliament of Romania.

    The Press Center EUGEN PREDA of the ROMANIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION has hosted the press conference on the theme LYCEE TEXT BOOKS 2000 which is organized by RADIO ROMANIA and the Ministry of National Education.

    The town of Curtea de Arges hosts in the interval 21 - 25 August the international symposium on the theme BIOLOGICAL COMPUTERS organized by the Academy of Romania in cooperation with the University of Auckland of New Zealand and with the Politechnic University of Madrid in Spain.

    The Romanian Financial Institute organizes in Bucharest under the aegis of the Bank of France in the period 21 - 16 August courses on financial analysis at the standards US - GAAP and IAS.

    The Romanian stand at the universal exhibition HANOUVER 2000 hosts the second session of the press symposium ROMANIAN PRESS IN THE INTERNET AGE.
