[01] Protest marches and meetings organized by the National Trade Union
Federation
BNS which is the National Trade Union Federation has organized a protest
meeting with the participation of most of county branches. Leader of BNS
Dumitru Costin attacked in harsh terms the present government's economic
and social policy saying that because of this more than 60 per cent of the
population of Romania lives under the poverty limit. According to the trade
union leader Costin Monday sees the beginning of negociations between the
trade unions and the Executive with a view to unprime conflicting situation
which, if not solved by 15 December, leads to protest actions of particular
amplitude.
[02] Meeting of Prime Minister Radu Vasile with representatives of trade
unions of railroad transports
Prime Minister Radu Vasile received on Thursday at the seat of the
Government a delegation of the representatives of the national convention
SOLIDARITY of the rail road trade unions of Romania. During the talks the
representatives of the trade unions referred to the reasons at the basis of
the labor conflict, lack of collective labor conflict in the main. PM Radu
Vasile asked the respective ministries to analyze demands of the rail road
trade unions and seek a corresponding settlement of the situation.
Transports minister Traian Basescu underlined the rail road infrastructure
needs major investments for the modernization and safety of transports and
this is the main concern of the ministry.
[03] The Government altered Emergency Ordinance 51/ 1998 regarding measures
prior to bank privatization
During Thursday's regular weekly meeting the Cabinet altered Emergency
Ordinance 51 of 1998 regarding a number of measures prior to the
privatization of banks. The alteration consists in the setting up of the
Council of Supervision and Guidance which is made up of five members
representing the Finance Ministry, the National Bank of Romania, the
Justice Ministry, Romanian Development Agency and the Department of control
of the Government. The members are appointed by the Prime Minister and are
not MPies or directly representing any financial, commercial or any other
interest.
[04] Gas costs more
Competrol has increased gas price by five per cent starting 3 December this
year for the area of the capital city of Romania, Bucharest. In Romania
gasoline is sold by the litre.
[05] Financing of the health system in the year 2000
The financing of the health system of Romania will be divided next year
between the Health Ministry of this country and the National House of
Health Ensurance. Minister of Health Hajdu Gabor promised the funds from
the state budget will be distributed among the domains of national
importance such as AID, tuberculosis and transfusions.
[06] PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - started negociations with
the Socialist Party - PS
PDSR started negociations with PS for possible political cooperation and
according to vice-president Mariana Vasuc that was possible only if there
was compatibility of programme and doctrine between the two parties. She
added that in no case PDSR would abandon its social - democratic political
line, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.
[07] Meeting of the working group entrusted with the working out of
strategy of adherence of Romania to the European Union
Thursday the seat of the Government which is the Victoria Palace saw the
meeting of the Group for the working out of the economic strategy on a
medium term with the director general for economic and financial issues of
the European Commission, Giovanni Ravasio. Also present was Fokion Fotiadis,
head of the European Union mission to Bucharest as well as Ziad Alahdad,
representative of the World Bank to Bucharest informs RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI. Romanian Prime Minister estimated as very good the suggestion
of Giovanni Ravasio according to whom the working group must include
specialists that are not politically involved while the specialists who are
reccomended by the parliamentary political groups should be part of the
Consultative Committee alongside representatives of the Economic and Social
Council.
