[01] NATO Exercise "Cooperative Determination '99" Ended
NATO exercise "Cooperative Determination '99" within the PfP programme
ended on Sunday in Bucharest with an official ceremony attended by prime
minister Radu Vasile, general Constantin Degeratu, head of the Romanian
Army General Staff, and Tamer Akbash, commander of the Joint Staff in South-
East Europe, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. The Romanian prime minister
said in his speech that Romania's participation in the PfP programme
confirmed its option for NATO integration, the Partnership being just a
transitional stage. The exercise "Cooperative Determination '99" was a gain
for the training of the Romanian military, said the head of the Romanian
Army General Staff, general ConstanDin Degeratu. In his turn, Tamer Akbash,
commander of the Joint Staff in South-East Europe, said the objectives of
the exercise - training of the participant military and reaching
interoperability - have been reached, and thanked the Romanian Army for
hosting the exercise. "Cooperative Determination '99" gathered last week in
Bucharest military from seven NATO member countries and nine partner
countries. The exercise consisted in computer simulation of peacekeeping
operations and humanitarian missions. RADOR
[02] UDMR Leader Replies to Laszlo Tokes's Allegations
UDMR leader Marko Bela, speaking at the meeting of the Coordination Council
and Council of UDMR Representatives, stressed that the statements made to
the press by bishop Laszlo Tokes, according to which the Union was a
communist party and its leadership totalitarian, could in no way hinder the
functioning of UDMR. Marko Bela also said, quoted by RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI he did not wish the bishop out of the Union, adding Dt was a
pitty such a topic was discussed at the moment, ten years after the
revolution in December, "in which the bishop played a very important part
and his prestige could have helped increase the prestige of the Union".

[03] Romanian Cultural Days in Budapest
The Romanian Cultural Days, organized by the Culture Ministry in Romania,
Cultural Heritage Ministry in Hungary and the Romanian Cultural Center in
Budapest, officially opened on Sunday at the Arts Museum in Budapest. Ion
Caramitru, the Romanian culture minister and his hungarian counterpart
Jozsef Hamoryi, stressed the significance of the event, meant to promote
the Romanian cultural values and to contribute to strengthening the
bilateral relations. The Romanian Cultural Days started with a
retrospective exhibition "Ion Tuculescu", and will continue with theatre
performances, concerts and a photo exhibition, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI
