[01] Romanian participation in the debates of the Ministerial Council of
the EU
Romanian foreign affairs and defense ministers Andrei Plesu and Victor
Babiuc arrived in Bucharest last night after having attended the session of
the Ministerial Council of the EU in Bremen, Germany, RADIO ROMANIA
ACTUALITATI reports.Mr.Plesu who is also acting chairman of the South East
Initiative of Cooperation said he suggested to the Council members the
enlargement of basis of investments in the region, support for regional
trust, strengthening of infrastructure and struggle against corruption. Mr.
Babiuc said talks at the session of the EU members and associates were
centered on a more rapid involvement of the associates in the
administration of European crises.Mr. Babiuc also added that the
possibility was tackled of using power of the NATO partners in the
administration of European crises. RADOR
[02] Statement of Prime Minister Radu Vasile on the occasion of DAY OF
EUROPE
Prime Minister Radu Vasile met with Fokion Fotiadis, Head of the EC
Delegation to Bucharest, with other representatives of the European Union,
with ambassadors of EU members and with Romanian politicians,on the
occasion of DAY OF EUROPE; the Prime Minister said the following to one of
RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reporters:" it is certain that the role of
Romania was reconsidered in the latest period of time" adding that the
recent visits of the UK PM and of the Pope to Bucharest are also "proof of
the fact that Romania is now on the path which more or less was forbidden
to it until not long ago following lack of credibility and ,more or less,
lack of proper image". RADOR
[03] Talks of the Head of the World Bank Mission to Romania
Francois Etgtori, Head of the World Bank Mission to Romania was received by
Prime Minister Radu Vasile for talks on a new project for Romania,
Conprehensive DEvelopment Programme, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports. The
Cabinet is most determined to fulfill all provisions of the programmes
convened with the World Bank. RADOR
[04] Use of mother tongue in local administration
Senate of Romania adopted by significant majority the Article of the draft
Law of public local administration that regulates the use of mother tongue
in local administration, RADIO KOSSUTH BUDAPEST informs.According to the
afore mentioned normative act, in the localities where one or another
national minority represents at least 20 per cent of the total population
of that locality members of the respective national minority can and may
use their mother tongue when addressing local authorities. At the same time
in these localities plates with name of locality and public institutions
and offices can be written in several languages.Opposition of Romania
attacked vehemently this draft law, most of the MP-ies of the opposition
parties having not been present at the vote of this draft law while the
senators belonging to majority coalition all voted in favour of passing
this Article as stipulated by the accord signed as part of the coalition.
