[01] Romanian Attorney General dismissed
At the suggestion of Valeriu Stoica, the Minister of Justice, Romanian
president Emil Constantinescu has signed the decree concerning the
resignation of Nicolae Cochinescu, Romania's Attorney General, beginning
with August 26, Presidency Bureau informs. RADOR, August 26
[02] Extraordinary session of parliament rejected
On Monday the Senate permanent bureau rejected the proposal made by the
leaders of the opposition parties which requested the convocation in an
extraordinary session of this week. Radu Vasile, the vice-president of
Senate said the request of the opponent parties had been rejected because
of essence and means of procedure. RADOR, August 26
[03] New Law on judicial organisation becomes operational
The modified form of the law concerning the judicial organization has
become operational since Monday, RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI informs. RADOR,

[04] Press conference of Romania's Alternative Party (PAR)
The leaders of PAR consider that technical arguments should prevail over
the political ones when approaching the economic problems. At a press
conference held on Monday, the leader of PAR, Varujan Vosganian expressed
his dissatisfaction with the fact that a part of the press shows his
activity in a derogatory manner with certain allusions to his ethnical
origin. He said he is a Romanian deputy not an Armenian one and his policy

[05] Proposals to accelerate privatization
A new round of talks between the Government and representatives of main
trade union confederations took place on Monday at the Victoria Palace. The
talks were about the measures that are to accelerate the privatization
process in time to come, and to surpass the financial and economic
deadlock. Dumitru Costin, the president of National Trade Union Block, said
"there were proposals aimed to eliminate certain differencies between
Romanian and foreign investors". RADOR, August 26
[06] Bulgarian-Romanian bridge over Danube consolidated
The bridge that joins the Romanian town of Giurgiu and the Bulgarian town
of Ruse has been consolidated. The work has been completed with the help of
the EU-Phare programme and the United Nations, out of repayable funds.

[07] Roanian Interior Minister Visiting Morocco
Between August 25-28, Romanian Interior Minister Gavril Dejeu is officially
visiting the Kingdom of Morocco following an invitation of his Moroccan
counterpart, Driss Basri. During this meeting, an antidrug traffic
cooperation agreement between the Romanian and the Moroccan governments is
to be signed. The agreement is also refering to moves against illegal
immigration and organised crime - a Romanian Interior Ministry communique

[08] Romanian-German-Yugoslave joint talks
Reopening navigation on Bega Canal and building a port in the Western
Romanian city of Timisoara was the subject of Monday's joined Romanian-
German-Yugoslav talks. According to a financial preliminary study, the cost
of the project will rise to 50 million dollars and will last two years.
Reopening navigation both in Romanian and Yugoslave sectors and the
necessity to set up a Romanian-German joint venture to run that economic
objective were discussed by experts from Germany, Yugoslavia and Romania.

[09] Romanian-American military exercise
Starting on Monday, a Romanian-American joined military exercise is taking
place till August 29, under the "Mill to Mill" Programme. The subject of
this exercise is "Organizsing, planning and joint training in camps and
shooting range for infantery units". In the same time, an American military
delegation will take part to a joint training mission with an artilery unit
of the Romanian army. RADOR, August 26
[10] Weather in Romania
Weather in Romania wil be colder and unstable, especially in central and
eastern parts of the country. Heavy rains are forecast in northern areas as
well as in the southern region of Dobrogea. Temperatures will range fro 14
