[01] Young Romanians from Ukraine have visited Cotroceni Palace
120 young Romanians from the Ukrainean region of Chernovtsy, the county of
Hertza and from the region of Odessa, together with their teachers have
been received by the Romanian president Emil Constantinescu. The students
from the counties of Izmail, Chilia, Cetatea Alba and Hertza, are attending
schools providing education in the Romanian language. Under different
motivations the education in the Romanian language is threatened. Students
from Basarabia and the county of Hertza areAin Bucharest after having spent
their holidays in the campus of Navodari at the Black Sea. All these
activities are included in the programme "Arc'97" for supporting the young
Romanians from both regions which has been initiated by the Romanian
president together with the Ministy of National Education. RADOR, August

[02] The Administration Council of Romanian Television Company (SRTV) Will
Be Designated by the Vote of Simple Government Majority
The Administration Council of Romanian Television Company (SRTV) will be
designated, according to the new draft law regarding the functioning of
this institution, by the simple majority vote declared, on Tuesday, the
president of the Culture Committee of the Deputy Chamber, Gabriel Tepelea .
According to the valid law number 41/1994 the election of the
Administration Council of Romanian Telvision Company (SRTV) is valid if it
is voted by 2/3 of the members of Parliament, added Gabriel Tepelea.

[03] Attorney General of Romania is dismissed
Nicolae Cochinescu declared at a meeting with the press, on Tuesday, that
his dismissal is a political one and it does not respect the law, which
stipulates that the dismissal of magistrates can be performed only in case
of transfer or misbehaviour. As for the reasons presented by the minister
of justice to the president of Romania, Nicolae Cochinescu said that two of
them, respectively the files unsolved regarding the miners' desend in the
city of Bucharest and the files concerning the adoptions of children have
nothing to do with reality. RADOR, August 27
[04] A New Chief of the Department of Military Information within the
Ministry of National Defence
The new chief of the Department of Military Information within the Ministry
of National Defence is colonel Cristian Dumitru Beregnevik appointed by the
minister of national defence, Victor Babiuc, on Monday. A communique
received from the Department of Public Relations says that colonel
Beregnevik Aas, during April-July 1997, the representative of the Chief of
Staff of the Romanian Army in the operation ALBA in Albania, with the
strategical headquarters of ALBA operation in Rome. RADOR, August 27
[05] Positive Appreciations Regarding Romania
American congressman, Tom Lantos, said after the meeting with the speaker
of the Senate, Petre Roman, that Romania's evolution on international level
presents very good signs both economically and politically in the view of
its integration into NATO's structures. Tom Lantos also expressed his
extreme confidence in the reform carried out by Ciorbea Government. In his
turn, the speaker of the Senate, Petre Roman, stated his satisfaction about
the letter sent by the American President Bill Clinton, and said he hoped
the number of foreign investors in Romania would increase. RADOR, August

Weather will be cool and rainy. The sky is clouded and there will be all
over the country. Maximum temperatures will range between 16 and 26 Celsius
degrees, and the minimum temperatures will go down to 6 Celsius degrees.
The weather in Bucharest will continue to be cool and in the afternoon
