In an interview with a newspaper in Luxemburg, the former sovereign said that the leg in Luxemburg of his series of visits to European constitutional monarchies is important, as the Grand Dukedom wull take over the presidency of the European Union at a crucial moment for Romania, in June, while the countries which will join NATO first are to be nominated later on, in Madrid. He also expressed the hope that the Romanian approach will be succsessful, evincing the fact that honesty and courage are not only virtues of the Romanian people but also the assets of its victory. Bucharest continues its diplomatic efforts to win all the members of the North-Atlantic Alliance on its side. The latter have not reach a consensus yet as regards the first wave of NATO's enlargement. Romania is actively supported by France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Belgium, Greece, Turkey and Luxemburg, countries which would like the first wave to include five candidate states.
