The Senate passed on Monday the draft law on the endorsement of the
Guvernment Ordinace #45/1997 concerning the setting up of the National Air
Transport Company S.A. as a Commercial Corporation. Attending the talks,
Romanian Transport Minister Traian Basescu stressed that the current
normative document supports TAROM Company for becoming a competitive
company which can avoid bankrupcy. Mr. Basescu has also declared that the
Transport Ministry will take over only the parts of social capital under
State Ownership Fund (FPS) administration when the Ordinance will come in
force and not those administrated by Financial Investments Society
Muntenia. Thus, he denied rumours concerning the virtual nationalisation of
TAROM Company. RADOR, September 23
