[01] Romanian Intelligence Service has a new chief
Romanian president Emil Constantinescu proposed Costin Georgescu for the
office of director of the Romanian Intelligence Service. The proposal will
be put forward to the speakers of both Houses in the Romanian Parliament
and will be submitted to the approval. Costin Georgescu, aged 55, graduated
the Bucharest Civil Engineering Institute in 1967 and was succesively
engineer in chief of a building site, of a group of building sites,
technical director and director of a construction trust. Between October
1992 and October 1996 he was director for development of the "R" Company.
At present he is deputy of Alba county and vice-president of the Commission
for Public Order and National Security in the House of Deputies. He has
been a close collaborator of president Emil Constantinescu since 1992, when
he was his campaign manager. He has been coordinator of the functional
departments of the Democratic Convention since 1993 and vice-president of
the Romanian Foundation for Democracy since 1992. He is married and has two

[02] Romanian Chief of Staff is visiting the US
In the period of May 19 -27, the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Army,
division general Constantin Degeratu, will pay an official visit to the
United States. The stage of Romanian-American relations will be examined
both within the Mil-to-Mil programme and in the wider programme of the
Partnership for Peace. New ways will be identified to determine the
American political and military officials to support Romania's efforts for
joining the Euro-Atlantic structures. RRI-RADOR. May 19
[03] A Korean ministerial delegation is visiting Romania
A delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of
Korea arrived in Bucharest on Sunday for a three-day visit. The head of the
delegation, Korean minister of science and technology Sook Il-kwun declared
upon his arrival in Romania that the main topics of discussions would be on
the two governments policies and on domain of mutual interest which are to
be included in the bilateral cooperation programme. RRI-RADOR, May 19
[04] Romanian Senate speaker Petre Roman is visiting Japan
"We want Japan to become one of the major investors in Romania", the Senate
speaker Petre Roman declared upon his departure as head of a Romanian
delegation in Japan to take part in the homage-paying session which marks
50 years since the House f Councilors in the Japanese Dieta was set. Petre
Romana also said "wide-scope projects are supported through substantial and
adventageous credits from Japan in the field of infrastrcture, in
irrigation and in the food industry". Another important aspect underlined
by the Senate speaker was that of cooperation in the military and legal

Weather in Romania is hot but is becoming cloudy especially in northern
parts of the country. Temperatures will range from 10-13 centigrades in the
