  • [01] Moldovan prime minister is visiting Bucharest

    Ways to intensify cooperation and increase two-way trade between the Republic of Moldova and Romania were the topics discussed during the official talks in Bucharest between Moldovan prime minister Ion Ciubuc and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ciorbea. At a joint press conference, the two prime ministers said that Romania could become a gate for the Republic of Moldova's access to the European Union, and the Republic of Moldova a gate for Romania towards the CIS space. A document was signed on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the accord of investment promotion and mutual protection between the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, tMe convention on cooperation in the field of plant protection, the cooperation accord between the ministries of justice of the two countries and the cooperation accord between the ministries of culture. Prime minister Victor Ciorbea emphasized that some provisions of these documents were referring to cooperation in the struggle against corruption and organized crime. The over 30 treaties, accords, conventions and agreements between the Republc of Moldova and Romania have created the premises for the signing of the near future of the basic treaty between the two countries. The two heads of government have stated that a free trade and indstrial area is going to be created near the common border. The Moldovan prime minister, who came to Bucharest accompanied by a large government and businessmen delegation was received on Thursday by Romanian president Emil Constantinescu and had talks with the speaker of the Romanian Senate Petre Roman, talks which covered the expansion of bilateral Mies.     [02] French Chief of Staff is visiting Romania

    During his reception in Bucharest by Romanian president Emil Constantinescu, general Jean-Philippe Douin, Chief of Staff of the French Army, has noted Romania's geo-strategic importance for NATO's Southern flank. He has underscored that an enlargement of NATO that fails to include Romania might cause major imbalance. President Consantinescu said Romania's admission into NATO in the first wave might be conducive to a flank of undersanding in this zone of Europe. RRI-RADOR, May 16

    [03] Lebanese foreign minister is visiting Bucharest

    Romanian Senate speaker Petre Roman received on Thursday the Lebanese foreign minister Fares Bouiez. No statements were made after the meeting. The Lebanese minister was also received by the speaker of the Lower House in Romanian Parliament Ion Diaconescu, ROMPRESS reports. RRI- RADOR, May 16

    [04] Procter & Gamble in Romania

    The American corporation Procter & Gamble has innaugurated its headquarters for the Balkan area in Timisoara, western Romania. The well-known corporation invested 50 million USD to purchase and revamp the detergent factory in that city. The innauguration in Timisoara was attended by Mr John E. Pepper, president of Procter & Gamble and his staff as well as by the US ambassador to Romania, Alfred Moses. During the meetings he had with president Constantinescu and prime minister Victor Ciorbea, the presidet of Procter & Gamble said that Romania had been selected after a thorough analysis of its political stability, economic potential and working force. The seat in Timisoara will also coordinate the business of the company with Balkan countries. RRI-RADOR, May 16

    The drawing of lots for te semifnal matches in Romania's football Cupdue for May 21-st took place on Thursday. The first mach will oppose te Bucharest teams FC National and Dinamo, while in the second semifinal, Steaua will play against Universitatea Craiova. RRI-RADOR, May 16
