  • [01] Romanian president visits the Check Republic

    Romania's president, Emil Constantinescu, will embark today on a two-day visit to the Check Republic. The talks with his Check counterpart, Vaclav Havel, and other senior officials are likely to cover boosting bilateral ties and the two states cooperation towards getting integrated into the european security structures.     [02] Romanian chieff of staff takes part at a seminar in Greece on security issues

    Between March 10th and 14th the Romanian chieff of staff, general Constantin Degeratu, will take part at a seminar on security issues, organized in Athens by the Western European Union. Constantin Degeratu is to speak about Romania's security interests, at a time when it is seeking integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures. RRI-RADOR, March 10

    [03] A delegation of the Armenian Constitutional Court is on a visit in Romania

    A delegation of the Armenian Constitutional Court, headed by its president, Gagik Harutunian, is on a visit to Romania. The delegation is to have talks with members of the Romanian Court, as well as with Romanian senior officials. RRI-RADOR, March 10

    [04] Special debate on the bill on present land law

    The Romanian president, Emil Constantinescu, has summoned the main parties in the governmental coalition in a special debate on a draft law ment to ammend and complete the present land law. The draft law is debated by the Romanian Chamber of Deputies in an emergency procedure. The attendees in the meeting highlighted that the maximum surface of the lands that are to be taken from the former owners should not exceed 10 hectars. On the other hand, the leaders of the governmental coalition demanded that the deadline of the law enforcement process - in case the law should be voted for - shoud not become effective this autumn, because otherwise this year's farming production will be impaired.     [05] Appeal against the decision issued by a Canadian Court

    A prosecutor representing the Canadian government appeled against the decision of the Appel Court in Nova Scotia to release the Taiwanese navy officers who had been accused of killing three Romanian clandestine passangers. The press agency REUTERS remainds that in May, last year, 8 Filipine sailors left the Taiwanese ship Maersk Dubai, which had arrived in Halifax port, Nova Scotia, and accused the Maersk Dubai officers of throwing the clandestine Romanians over bord for fearing of not being fined. The Canadian authorities put the Taiwanese officers under arest at the request of the Romanian authorities. Bucharest wants the extradition of the Taiwanese officers in Romania, while Taiwan claims authority over the case, because Maersk Dubai was sailing under taiwanese flag in international waters when the incident occured. In its turn, China, which claims sovereignity over Taiwan, insists that Beijing should take the final decision over the case of the Maersk Dubai officers. RRI-RADOR, March 10

    [06] Gold medal for a Romanian athlete

    The Romanian athlete, Gabriela Szabo, has won the gold medal in the womens' 3.000 metres event at the Indoor Athletics World Championships in Paris. Meanwhile, Romanian tennisplayer Irina Sparlea has qualified for the third round of the Indian Wells Championship in the United States. RRI-RADOR, March 10

    [07] Weather in Romania

    Weather remains cool, especially in the morning, with some fog expected in different parts of the country. The temperatures will range between -2 and +10 degrees Celsius. In Bucharest, where this morning there were 5 degrees above 0, the weather could be cooler than yesterday with some rainshowers expected during the afternoon. RADOR, March 10
