[01] Press Conference on Romania's accession to NATO
The question is not wheather Romania joins NATO but when - stated in
Bucharest this Wednesday senator Teodor Melescanu, chairman of the Senate
Foreign Policy Commission, during a press conference. Romanian foreign
minister Adrian Severin made an assessment of the support received from the
NATO member states for Romania's accession to the Atlantic structures. Mr
Severin said that Romania's strategic partnership with Hungary, on the one
hand, and with Poland, on the other hand, countries seeking NATO membership
as well, is an important factor of stability and security in this area of
Europe. Dwelling on the partnership between Romania and Poland, the
Romanian Foreign Minister stated that it is actually a triangular structure
which would involve Ukraine as well, a country which must be brought closer
to the European institutions and structures. RRI-RADOR, February 27,

[02] Cooperation between Romanian and Hungarian Foreign Ministries
Consultations between the Romanian and Hungarian Foreign Ministries have
come to an end in Budapest. The two sides have finalized protocols on the
setting up of an intergovernmental joint commission of cooperation and
active partnership and a protocol on cooperation between the foreign
ministries of the two countries. It was agreed upon that the documents be
signed during the visit Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea will pay to
Hungary on March 12 and 13. The heads of the two delegations exchanged the
minutes on the opening of general and honorary consulates in the two
countries. The Hungarian side has announced that President Arpad Goncz
wishes to pay an official visit to Romania in the first half of this year.

[03] A delegation of European Comission is in Bucharest
A delegation of EC experts has arrived in Bucharest. It is led by Rutger
Wissels, the head of the unit for relations with the associated countries
within the general financial division. The community experts will have
talks with the Romanian authorities on deblocking the second tranche worth
70 million ECU of a loan granted by the EU to Romania for macro-
stabilisation and in support of its balance of payments. At a press
conference of the Romanian Foreign Minister, it was announced that Hans Van
den Broek, EC member in charge with the relations for Central and Eastern
Europe, will pay a visit to Romania between March 5-7. In another move, the
steps taken by Romanian Foreign Minister for making the NATO member
countries support Romania's accession to that organization will continue in
Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg next week. In the same context, the
director of NATO's division with Romania's Foreign Ministry will have
consultations in Prague between March 4 and 5, on the issue of integration.

[04] Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Yemen is in Romania
The Vice Premier and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Yemen, Abdul Karim
Al Yryani, is paying an official visit to Bucharest. The guest was received
by Romanian Premier Victor Ciorbea and by Foreign Minister Adrian Severin.
The Romanian side said that Bucharest was interested in the development of
ties between the two countries, especially in economic and trade fields. In
his turn, the Yemeni guest referred to the cooperation with Romania over
the past few decades in petro-chemistry, shipbuilding and sports. RRI-

The weather is expected to turn rainy in Romania, and snow is expected to
fall in the northern areas. The highs of the day will range between 8 and
18 Centigrade. A rather warm, but cloudy day in Bucharest, with highs up to
