[01] The French President, Jacques Chirac, visits Romania
The French President, Jacques Chirac, will arrive today in Bucharest at the
start of a visit seen by the Elysee Palace as a new start of the relations
between the two countries. The spokeswoman of the French Presidency,
Catherine Colona, said yesterday during a meeting with the press that Paris
supports Romania's efforts to join NATO in the first wave, taking into
consideration its compatibility with the Alliance's structures. Concerning
the enlargement of the UE, France is also an important allied of
Romania.RADOR
[02] Hungary supports Romania's efforts to join NATO
"We will do our best to help Romania join NATO", said the president of the
Foreign Policy Comission of the Hungarian Parliament, Mr. Matyas Eorsi, in
Bucharest, on Thursday. Matyas Eorsi is a member of the Hungarian comission
that visited Bucharest for talks with Romanian government members. Matyas
Eorsi added that the whole Hungarian government coalition was confident
that Romania would be one of the countries to take part in the Madrid talks
to get NATO membership in the first wave. "We support Romania's acces to
NATO" - Eorsi added - "not only because Romania and Hungary have good
neighbourhood relations, but also because Hungary has a major interest in
this sense."RRI
[03] The Romanian President, Emil Constantinescu, will visit Prague
Romanian President Emil Constantinescu will pay an official visit to the
Czech Republic. The visit is scheduled to take place between the 10-th and
11-th of March. This news was made public by the Czech Presidency press
office on Thursday, France Presse reports.RRI
[04] Help for the Romanian companies
The Romanian Foreign Ministry wishes to assist Romanian companies in their
businesses abroad. The Foreign Ministry decided drafting an offer of free
services provided by Romanian embassies for Romanian businessmen regardless
of their ownership form. These services are aimed to promote exports and to
attract foreign investors in Romania.RRI
[05] New currency policy in Romania
Thursday's rate of 7744 lei to the US dollar will remain valid until
Monday. The National Bank is to decide on the the new ways of reflecting
the situation on the money market. 28 sate and private banks have been
authorised to operate as dealers. An exception to this are Dacia Felix and
Credit Bank which, due to certain financial irregularities, will either be
reorganised or go into liquidation.RRI
[06] Mc Donnel Douglas in Romania
US airplane manufacturer McDonnel Douglas made public its intention to do
long term business with Romania. McDonnel Douglas representatives had talks
with Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea in Bucharest on Thursday. They proposed
a programme for the development of the Romanian aeronautic industry.
Experts of the American company believe that, by taking part in the reform
launched by the Ciorbea government, Mc Donnel Douglas could create new jobs
for the Romanian people and could also transfer aeronautics technology in
Romania.RRI
The weather will be cloudy in the North and West of the country, where il
could also snow. In the morning and evening, fogg can make its appearance
in the low regions. The temperatures will rise slightly during the day,
especially in the South. Temperature values will be between -10 and 6
