[01] Romanian experts from Foreign and Defence Ministries attend NATO
military exercise
Between february 19th and 26th the North Atlantic Council has organised in
Bruxelles a military exercise simulating crisis. Among the participants
aremilitary and civilians experts from the NATO countries and adherants to
the Partnership for Peace. Romania is represented by experts from the
Foreign Ministry and Defence Ministry. RRI-RADOR, February 20
[02] The final text of the agreement for Romania's accesion to membership
in the Central-Europe Free Trade Accord approved in Slovenia
The latest round of negociations between the Central-Europe Free Trade
Agreement countries and Romania agreed in Liublijana, Slovenia, on the
final text of the agreement for Romania's accesion to membership in the
Central-Europe Free Trade Accord, as well as on the protocols to liberalise
trade with industrial goods and part of the farm produce. The Accord will
be signed in Bucharest by all the concerned ministers of trade by April
10th 1997 and will come into force on Julay the 1st. RRI-RADOR, February

[03] Romania will hold the chairmanship of the Geneva Conference on
Disarmament
Between February 17th and March 17th Romania will hold the chairmanship of
the Geneva Conference on Disarmament. The announcement was made on
Wednesday during a press conference in Bucharest by the spokeman for the
Romanian Foreign Ministry. Other news were that the Australian authorities
of the State of Victoria have officially recognized the curriculum of the
Melbourne Romanian community's school, with tuition also in Romanian.
Therefore, starting 1997, 41 of the 160 pupils there will be allowed to
take their highscool graduation exams in Romanian. RRI-RADOR, February 20
[04] Inter-governmental accord between Romania and Hungary
The Romanian and Hungarian ministers of interior, Gavril Dejeu and Gabor
Kuncze, signed on Wednesady in Budapest an inter-governmental cooperation
agreement on fighting against organised crime, drug trafficking and
terorism. The agreement stipulates a permanent exchange of information
between the two countries in these fields, as well as joint actions in case

[05] The National Bank of Romania will no longer set the rate of exchange
of the national currency
As from Wednesday, the National Bank of Romania will no longer set the rate
of exchange of the national currency, the leu. This is a result of the
liberalization of the currency market, of prices and the rate of exchange.
The rate of exchange of 7,744 lei for 1 US dollar will remain valid until
Monday. The Central Bank is to decide this week upon the new operation of
the currency market. 28 state and private banks have been authorised to
operate as foreign currency dealers. RRI-RADOR, February 20.

The weather will be mostly fine with some rain and snowfalls in northern
and eastern parts of the country. The temperatures will range between -8
and +5 degrees Celsius. In Bucharest the weather will be fine with a high
