[01] Romanians living abroad will receive pensions
Romania's Senate adopted the bill pending and complementing several
articles regarding the law of pensions and social security. The main
amendments refer to the payment of the pensions and the right to pensions
of the Romanian citizens liviving abroad. RRI RADOR, February 14
[02] The Romanian national currency is depreciating
The Romanian national currency, the leu, is further depreciating as against
the US dollar, the exchange rate for February 13th being 6,725 lei for one
dollar. At the exchange offices, the dollar is bought on an average for 6,
600 lei and sold for 7,000 lei. RRI RADOR, February 14
[03] An act of justice
Romania's ex-King, Michael the first, said that Romania's Government
decision to restore his Romanian citizenship was an act of justice, reads a
communique by the Royal House in Versoix, Switzerland. The communist regime,
which came to power after the Second World War, had cancelled King
Michael's Romanian citizenship in 1948. After the December 1989 Revolution,
Michael the first had repeatedly tried to visit Romania, but his access in
the country was approved only once, in 1992. The former Government denied
King Michael entrance visa unless he recognized Romania's status as a
republic, according to the Constitution. Along the same track, Senate's
speaker, Petre Roman, said on Thursday that King Michael the first would
have to recognize Romania's present Constitution and status, if he wanted

[04] American businessmen met the Romanian president, Emil Constantinescu
On Thursday, Romanian president, Emil Constantinescu, received a delegation
of American businessmen. In a press statement released after the meeting,
CMG vice-president, Stefan Minovic, said that the American delegation
unanimousley agreed Romania was a stable country, where foreign investment
could be made successfully. "We hope to return here joined by strategic
American investors", said mr. Minovic. RRI RADOR, February 14
[05] Romanian defence minister vists Hungary
Romanian defense minister, Victor Babiuc, is due to pay a formal visit to
Hungary for talks with his Hungarian counterpart, Gyorgy Keleti. The two
senior officials are scheduled to meet in Debretin. Their talks will focus
on the present relations between the armies of the two countries, as well
as on other issues of mutual concern. RRI RADOR, February 14
[06] Talks between Government, Trade Unions and Employers' Association
In Romania, the tripartits talks between the Government, the trade unions
and the Employers'Association continued on Thursday, too. The trade unions
claimed the minimum pay for the all-country economy to be levelled up to
240 thousands lei, which is about 40 dollars. Previously, the Governemnt
had proposed the amount of 130 thousand lei, which is about 20 dollars. In
another move, the Government spokeman announced that the prime-minister,
Victor Ciorbea, is to present, on Monday, February 17, the economic reform
and social protection measures approved by the Government. The talks
between the Government, trade unions and the Employers' Association will be

Weather will be warm with partly cloudy sky. Snowfalls are expected up in
the mountains. Temperatures will range between 0 and 12 degrees Celsius. In
Bucharest possible rainshowers are expected during the afternoon and the
