  • [01] The treaty with Ukraine is indispensable for Romania's admission into the Euro-Atlantic structures

    The treaty with Ukraine is an indispensable condition for Romania's admission into the Euro-Atlantic structures, said on Wednesday in Bucharest the Romanian foreign minister, Adrian Severin. He has added that the treaty is of paramount importance as its signing would strengthen stability in the region and will contribute to Romania'F joining NATO. As far as the treaty with Russia is concerned, the Romanian foreign minister has said that talks have not been resumed, but the Romanian side wishes to finalise this document as soon as possible, taking into account both Romania's national interest and its obligations as a factor of stability in this part of the world. In another move, the Romanian Foreign Ministry has initiated the formation of a group to coordinate the efforts for integration into NATO. RRI RADOR, February 13

    [02] Multilateral negociations between Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and the European Union

    In keeping with the provisions of the European Association Accord, multilateral negociations between Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and the European Union are under way with a view to concluding accords on the road transportation of goods and the occasional transport of passengers. In view of joining the European Union, the succes of these negociations has a political conotation and will prove the capacity For integration into the trans-European transport networks, said the spokeman for the Romanian Foreign Ministry. She also announced that a meeting of the OSCE group will be held in Bruxelles on February 13th, as part of the dialogue between the European Union and the associate countries. Bruxelles will also host, on March the 3rd, the meeting of the environment ministers of the European Union member and associate countries. RRI RADOR, February 13

    [03] The Romanian Government wants to restore the Romanian citizenship to King Mihai the 1st

    The Romanian Government will take all the necessary steps as soon as possible for the former sovereign of Romania, King Mihai the 1st, to be restored the Romanian citizenship the King was abusively stripped of by the first post-war communist govenment installed in 1948. This is the message of the communique released by the Press Bureau of the Government. A few weeks ago, the former sovereign announced his intention to leave Switzerland, where Fe lives in exile, and to settle in Romania as ordinary citizen. Recently, 21 personalities of the Romanian cultural and scientific life sent an open letter to the Government requesting for the correction of a historic injustice commited by communists.     [04] Letter from the Romanian Parliament's Committee for Foreign Policy adressed to the Romanians living abroad

    On Wednesday, the Romanian Parliament's Committee for Foreign Policy released a letter adressed to the Romanians living abroad. According to the document, a sub-committee for the relations with the diaspora has been created to ensure communication and promote the interests of the Romanians living abroad in their relations with the mother-land and with the authorities temporarily representing them. The Government in Bucharest has developed a new efficient and practical foreign policy on the relation with the diaspora and it also needs the opinions of the Romanians living abroad. In the same letter,Fthe Romanian Government also commits itself to permanently informing the representatives of the diaspora on its political and cultural programs and measures. The purpose of the new sub-committee is to change Romania's image in the world, a much desired objectives for the country's integration into the European Union and NATO. RRI RADOR, February 13

    [05] Moral reparation for the Romanians who had been persecuted for 50 years

    "Each Romanian citizen must urgently have access to his or her own file drawn up by the former political police during the communist period. This is another way of Romania's joining the civilised countries. There is no reason to maintain this unusual embargo on the citizens' right to information", said on Wednesday the director of the Romanian Intelligence Service, Virgil Magureanu. He made the statement before the legal committee of Romania's Parliament during the debates of a bill providing for the Romanian citizens' access to the files drawn up by the SECURIFATE. Mr Magureanu said the event would be a more moral reparation to the people who had been persecuted for 50 years. RRI RADOR, February 13
