  • [01] Draft Law Complementing the Law of Foreign Investments

    Romanian Senate approved on Tuesday the draft law complementing the current foreign investments law. Draft law entitles foreign capital or partly foreign capital trading companies incorporated as Romania legal entities to acquire ownership rights on land, necessary for conducting their activities. Reperesentatives of the parliamentary majority indicated that the draft law could bring Romanian legislation in tune with European one. Under The Europe Agreement with Romania, this country must give companies from EU member states equal treatment with Romanian companies.RRI-RADOR, February 12

    [02] Opinion Poll

    The Center of Urban and Regional Sociology of Romania upon the initiative of Manfred Woerner Foundation has recently conducted an opinion poll among Bucharesters in connection with the country's integration into NATO. 90% of respondats confirmed Romania's wish to join the North-Atlantic Alliance in the firs wave. Bucharesters are aware of the need for foreign support to the admission into the alliance; 50% of respondants consider that France should lend us substantial support, while 26% believe the USA will have a decisive role on the issue - it has been announced at a press conference of Manfred Woerner Foundation. More than 88% believe that non-accession to NATO may have negative consequences in economy and may lead to Romania's international isolation.RRI-RADOR, February 12

    [03] Norway denies a statement by its defense minister

    The government in Oslo has not take any decision yet on the expansion of NATO to the East and Norwegian defense minister, Joergen Kosmo has not stood against Romania's accession to NATO either - the embassy of Norway to Bucharest has declared. ITAR-TASS news agency had quoted Kosmo as saying "Romania and the three Baltic states could not join NATO because they do not meet all the requirements of accession to this organization". Norwegian embassy in Romania made public the denial on Monday.RRI-RADOR, February 12

    [04] Romanian Intelligence chief in Moscow

    Director of Romanian Intelligence Service Virgil Magureanu and his Russinan counterpart, Nikolai Kovaliov, have signed an inter-department accord of cooperatrion in Moscow. During their meeting the two have also discussed relations of cooperation between the two instituitons in fighting terrorism and organized crime. In another development, the US Federal Bureau of Invewstigation (FBI) intends to open a permanent office in Romania, in 1998. The Security adviser of Romania's president said this would help aovercome difficulties emerging in fighting organized crime and financial frauds.RRI-RADOR, February 12

    Weather in Romania will be warm, with temperatures between 2 and 10 centigrades. Some clouds could appear in the North of the country where rain is possible. In Bucharest, weather will be sunny. Temeratures will range fron -2 centigrades in the morning till 10 centigrades at noon.RADOR, February 12
