[01] Romanian parlamentary delegation left for Strasbourg
A Romanian parliamentary delegation, led by the deputy speaker of the
Senate, Radu Vasile, left on January 26th for Strasbourg, for participating
tothe first part of the ordinary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of
the Council of Europe. Romania's fundamental interest - its integration in
the North-Atlantic structures - will be categorically asserted by the
Romanian delegation, said Mr Radu Vasile before leaving. The Romanian
parliamentary delegation, reorganized, had beenJappreciated by its leader
as a more powerful team compared to that of the last legislature.The
members of the delegation agreed to support senator Radu Vasile to
candidate for the deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly, during
this session, thus succeeding to his mate, senator Valentin Gabrielescu,
ROMPRES News Agency reports. In his turn, the representative of the Party
of Social Democracy, in opposition, deputy Adrian Nastase agreed that the
delegation is a powerful one, but he also expressed his fear that the
members of the delegation would have different points of view "according to

Today, in Bonn, the Romanian State Secretary Dumitru Ceausu hastalks with
officials on NATO issues in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The
talks are part of the approaches initiated by Romania to the member states
of the North-Atlantic Alliance, to get supportJfor Romania's addimision to

[03] Western support for Romania's addmision to NATO
Romania benefits by the Western support regarding its addmision to NATO,
esspecially from France, Radio France International reports. Both the
government in Paris and the opposition have confirmed the fact directly to
the authorities in Bucharest, during the visits of the French minister
Michel Barnier and the former prime minister, Michel Rocard, to the

[04] Emil Constantinescu and Ion Iliescu had a telephone conversation
Romanian president Emil Constantinescu had a telephone conversation with
the leader of the Party of Social Democracy, former president of Romania,
Ion Iliescu, reffering to Mr Constantinescu's meeting with the leaders of
the parliamentary parties in opposition. Mr. Iliescu considered that it
would be more adequate that the meeting with the representatives of each
party should take place apart, a point of view agreed by the president.
Press Office of the Romanian presidency announced that the leadership of
the Party of Social Democracy would be received by the president on January
29th, 5 p.m., that of the Party of Romanian National Unity - on January
28th, 7 p.m. and of Grater Romania Party also on the 28th, 8 p.m. The
contacts with the leaders of the parliamentary opposition precede a general
meeting with all the leaders of the parliamentary parties on the country's

[05] Malcolm Rifkind will visit Romania
The British foreign secretary, Malcolm Rifkind, is on an official two days
visit in Bucharest. During the visit he will meet president Emil
Constantinescu, premier Victor Ciorbea. He will also have talks with the
Romanian foreign minister Adrian Severin on issues regarding the bilateral
relations and Romania's integration in the European and Euro-Atlantic

[06] Comemoration of the victims of the 1941 pogrom performed by members of
the Romanian fascist organization "Iron Guard"
On January 26th, at the Coral Temple in Bucharest were commemorated the
martyrs killed during the pogrom performed by the members of the Romanian
fascist organization "Iron Guard" in Bucharest on January 21-23,1941. The
religious service was officiated by Mr Haham Elizer Grant and the first
reader Willy Harnik. Acad. Dr. Nicolae Cajal, the president of the
Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania evoked this tragic event.
Representatives of different religions and diplomatic services, as well as
a numerous public were present. After the service, the participants went on
a pligrimage to the martyrs' graves in the Jewish Cemetry.RADOR, January
