[01] Visit in Romania by minister delegate for European issues in the
French foreign ministry, Michel Barnier
Minister delegate for European issues with the French foreign ministry,
Michel Barnier, who has visited Bucharest, was received on January 21 by
Romanian president, Emil Constantinescu. In the end of the meeting, he
organized a press conference at Cotroceni Palace with Romanian foreign
minister Adrian Severin. Michel Barnier was impressed by the responsible
attitude of the new Romanian authorities in the process towards EU and NATO
integration. He said France will support Romania's first wave NATO
membership and efforts of our country to respond the standards this process
requiered. He added Romania's geostrategic position is an advantage in this
respect. While hailing the balanced policy of Romania, Michel Barnier said
France wanted that NATO enlargement process would develop without
aggressing Russia and would create a new milestone in Europe. On January 21,
the highranking French official met Romanian prime minister Victor Ciorbea,
speaker of the Senate Petre Roman, and foreign minister Adrian Severin.
Michel Barnier also participated in the French-Romanian group for social

said Mr Rudolf Seiter
"Germany will support Romania's efforts for Euro-Atlantic integration",
said Mr Rudolf Seiters, vicepresident of the SDU-CSU wing of German
Bundestag, after president Emil Constantinescu received a German parliament
delegation on January 21. "Germany is very interested in Romania's
evolution, and it's watching with sympathy its efforts in finalizing reform
and developing market economy. Rudolf Seiter was accompanied in his visit
by Klaus Franke, president of parliamentarian group of friendship Germany-
Romania, and by Friedhelm Ost, president of the Bundestag economic
comission. The German parliametarian delegation met also Petre Roman and
Ion Diaconescu, speakers of the two Houses of Romanian parliament, prime
minister Victor Ciorbea, and foreign minister Adrian Severin.RADOR,

[03] DEUTSCHE BANK wants to open Romanian branches
"DEUTSCHE BANK is interested in opening Romanian branches", said minister
of state Mircea Ciumara, the Romanian finance minister who has visited the
land of Bavaria between 19-th and 21-st of January. "Between the 29-th and
30-th of January, a DEUTSCHE BANK delegation will visit Romania to estimate
opportunities of cooperation", Mr Mircea Ciumara added.RADOR, January 22
[04] House of Deputies session
Yesterday, the House of Deputies has restarted the debate on articles of a
draft law for educational personnel. This debate started last year and then
was suspended after the first 47 articles were examined. Under articles
approved by the House of Deputies, the schedule of educational personnel of
first degree, with 25 years of activity, can be reduced by two hours weekly
without any reduction of salary. The House of Deputies also approved other
articles, on educational personnel in rural areas, on young educational
personnel in its first five years of activity, and also on personnel with
more than 10 years of activity in the field.RADOR, January 22
