[01] Romanian President Emil Constantinescu Ended His State Visit to Poland
"Romania's and Poland's integration into NATO could be facilitated also by
the two countries' opening towards Ukraine, for the building of a
trilateral of security and stability in the region", stated in Bucharest on
Wednesday President Emil Constantinescu on his return from his official
visit to Warsaw. The Romanian head of state added that the new cooperation
with Poland brings back into focus a traditional component of the Romanian
policy, by which Romania was linked to the West by a Northern route,
through Poland. He underlined that the economic ties with Warsaw have been
relaunched after an artificial blockage. Between the two states there are
now many mutually advantageous fields opened by Romania's integration into
CEFTA and Poland's into the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. (RRI-RADOR,

[02] Steps Taken by the Romanian Diplomacy
Lazar Comanescu, secretary of state in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, will
present in London the economic reform measures envisaged by the new
government, as well as the latest Romanian initiatives along the line of
consolidating ties with its neighbours and of strengthening regional
cooperation. This move is part of the steps taken by the Romanian diplomacy
with the NATO member states to include Romania among the countries to join
NATO first. (RRI-RADOR, January 16)
[03] Talks Between Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea and the Trade Union
Leaders
Talks took place in Bucharest this Wednesday between Premier Victor Ciorbea
and the leaders of the big trade union federations of Romania. The Romanian
Premier said that an agreement had been reached that negociations should
start this week for the conclusion of a social accord. In their turn, the
trade union leaders said that the simultaneous negociations the Romanian
Government is due to hold with international financial bodies, on one hand,
and with trade unions and the employers' organizations, on the other hand,
would enable working out a mechanism conducive to a rise in the Romanian
population's living standard. At the beginning of the year, fuel prices in
Romania doubled, bringing about rises in the prices of the staples on the
market. (RRI-RADOR, January 16)
