Britain and Greece are old and firm friends. But countries, like people, change with time and need to stay in touch regularly to keep their friendships in good repair. For this reason, on the occasion of the UK Presidency of the European Union, we are offering a nation-wide series of events entitled Greece in Britain, aiming to present a taste of Modern Greece to the British public at large. Philhellenism has a long history on these shores. Greece in Britain hopes to refresh its roots and encourage new growth by sharing with the British public the wealth and diversity of contemporary Greece. While the programme will by no means ignore our past history and achievements, we hope to tempt our British friends to savour the new and the unfamiliar and, above all, to enjoy the experience.
