WASHINGTON - U.S. National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Sean
McCormack has said he cannot comment on Turkish domestic politics but
the United States is ready to cooperate with any leader that the
Turkish people are going to elect

ANKARA - The Motherland Party (ANAP) with the support of the Felicity
Party (SP) requested the parliament to hold an extraordinary meeting at

ISTANBUL - Impacts of a possible operation that can be launched by the
United States against Iraq, on Turkey and the region were assessed
during the monthly meeting of the National Security Council (NSC).

ATHENS - Athens gave the message to Turkey that it was determined to

ISTANBUL - The monthly meeting of the National Security Council (NSC)
under the chairmanship of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer ended.
[06] DEATH TOLL INCREASES TO 23 IN FLOOD DISASTER IN RIZE
RIZE - Three more bodies were recovered from a house which collapsed in
Selamet village in Guneysu township of northern province of Rize due to
flood disaster. Death tool increased to 23 in flood disaster in Guneysu
and Cayeli townships of Rize.
[07] YILMAZ: ''WE WILL SEND 500 BILLION TL OF ALLOCATION TO FLOOD-HIT
REGION ON THURSDAY''
RIZE - Motherland Party (ANAP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime
Minister Mesut Yilmaz has said that they would send 500 billion Turkish
lira (TL) urgent allocation on Thursday which flood-hit Rize Governor's
Office demanded from Prime Ministry.

ANKARA - Health Ministry Crisis Desk stated on Thursday that a total of
14 people were killed, 4 others were injured and 19 people disappeared
in flood disasters in several provinces.
[09] GENERAL ZORLU: ''SECURITY HAS BEEN SETTLED IN KABUL CONSIDERABLY''
KABUL - International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan
Commander General Hilmi Akin Zorlu said on Thursday, ''a month has
passed since Turkey undertook command of the ISAF. Security has been
settled in capital Kabul considerably.''

ANKARA - Turkey repaid a total of 409.6 million U.S. dollars in

that the new ships, planes and helicopters which were transferred from
the U.S. and France would strengthen the protection of Turkey's rights
and interests in the sea.

ANKARA - State Planning Organization (SPO) stressed on Thursday that
the increase in the imports of investment goods in April, which
decreased continiously since Feb. 2001, is the sign of restarting of
investments in economy.

ANKARA - Following the completion of the third review by the
International Monetary Fund (IMF), the updated letter of intent will be
signed by State Minister Kemal Dervis and Central Bank Governor Sureyya
Serdengecti after being examined by the coalition leaders.
[27] SUPREME COURT OF APPEALS CHAIRMAN OZKAYA SAYS DEATH PENALTY HAS TO
BE ABOLISHED IN TURKEY
ANKARA - Supreme Court of Appeals Chairman Eraslan Ozkaya said on
Thursday that the death penalty has to be abolished in Turkey, adding
that a solution has to be found to the issue of education and
broadcasting in mother tongue without damaging the unity and integrity
of Turkey.
[28] FLOOD DISASTER IN RIZE VILLAGERS TRY TO RECOVER BODIES FROM DEBRIS
RIZE - People are concerned about an increase in the number of persons
killed by the flood disaster in Cayeli and Guneysu towns of northern
Rize province.
