    HURRIYET (LIBERAL)

    WOLF: ''BAKU-CEYHAN PROJECT WILL BE ACCELERATED''
    John Wolf, the Energy Adviser of U.S. President Bill Clinton for Caspian Basin, came to Ankara to hold contacts on Caspian oil and Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline project. Wolf was received by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Cumhur Ersumer. Staging a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Wolf told reporters that Turkey would start main engineering works regarding the project next week. Wolf stressed that the works would be the first step of physical construction of the Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Wolf said that he believed that the Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline project could be finalized in 2004 in accordance with the schedule.

    EARTHQUAKE IN HENDEK IS AN AFTERSCHOCK
    The National Earthquake Council said that the earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale on last Wednesday in Hendek township of Adapazari was an aftershock of the devastating earthquake on August 17, 1999. After its regular weekly meeting, the Council said, ''The 5.8-magnitude earthquake of which was centered on Hendek-Akyazi, was an aftershock occurred on the fault line which had moved in the devastating earthquake on August 17, 1999. Within four hours after the quake, many minor aftershocks were recorded. Thus the erathquake in Hendek should be taken into consideration within framework of earthquakes in 1999.''

    ECHR REJECTS OCALAN'S LAWYER'S REQUEST FOR PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE
    The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected the application of Mark Muller, the lawyer of Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization PKK; for precautionary measure. Muller applied to the ECHR on August 1, and requested transition of his client from Imrali Prison to another prison and to a larger cell, and giving an end to Ocalan's isolation on the pretext of his client's health condition. The ECHR examined Muller's application. It decided not to take precautionary measure in accordance with Article 39 of its Regulation.

    MILLIYET (LIBERAL)

    GALATASARAY WINS EUROPEAN SUPERCUP
    Galatasaray beat Real Madrid of Spain 2-1 winning the European Supercup. Following the 1-1 drew after 90 minutes, Galatasaray won the Cup by golden goal in 13th minute of the extra-time. Galatasaray's success created a great enthusiasm among people throughout Turkey. People took out the streets to celebrate Galatasaray's success.

    VISA FACILITY TO GREEK ISLANDS
    The Greek Embassy in Ankara clarified the ambiguity caused by the visa application for Turkish citizens who want to pay excursions to Greek islands. The Greek Embassy said that the Greek Public Order Ministry had earlier permitted two companies which organize excursions from Turkey to Greek islands, to bring Turkish citizens to the islands without the necessity of visa. The Greek Embassy stressed that Greece decided to permit such excursions of other tourism agencies until September 15 only if the companies inform the Greek Public Order Ministry about the list of the passengers and the islands which will be visited, 48 hours before the excursions.

    FOOTBALL FESTIVAL BEGINS
    The draw for the European Champions League was made. Galatasaray soccer club has been matched with AS Monaco of France, Glasgow Rangers of Scotland and SK Sturm Graz of Austria in the Group D while Besiktas soccer club of Turkey has been matched with FC Barcelona of Spain, AC Milan of Italy and AFC Leeds United of Britain in the Group H.

    MUSIAD DUE TO U.S.
    A delegation of Individual Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD) will go to the U.S. on August 27. The MUSIAD delegation headed by Erol Yarar will spend ten days in the U.S. The MUSIAD delegation will visit Kennedy Space Base, Warner Bross Film Studios, World Trade Center, New York Stock Market, Chicago Grain Market, and the United Nations. Omer Bolat, the Deputy Director General of MUSIAD, said that the U.S. has important place in Turkey's foreign trade. Bolat added that there were 311 U.S. companies functioning in Turkey as of the end of 1999 and that the total capital of these companies was 117.3 trillion Turkish liras (TL).

    CUMHURIYET (LEFT)

    IMF MODEL TO SOCIAL SECURITY
    The government is hastily trying to implement the arrangements which make the social security system's ''administration style'' fit the free market in accordance with the request of the IMF. The social security funds which the foreigners covet will be opened to use. The arrangements which can create dispute were changed into a decree with the force of law.

    AMMUNITION FACTORY TO TURKEY
    Green light was shed for construction of an ammunition factory in Turkey while the German government was reiterating that exports of Leopard-2 tanks to Turkey was impossible. Sources said that a German company and the Turkish Defense Ministry had signed a 90 million German marks agreement. German MAN Holding's Fritz Werner Industrie Ausrustung GmbH said that the company had won the international tender opened for construction of an ammunition factory in Turkey. Experts said that the Turkish government had welcomed the preliminary application of the company which had earlier exported machines to Turkey for production of rounds. Experts said that there was a need for the approval of the Turkish government for validity of the agreement in question.

    RADIKAL (LEFT)

    ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BARAK DUE IN TURKEY
    Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak will come to Turkey on Monday. Barak decided to pay a visit to Turkey after Foreign Minister Ismail Cem and President Arafat during his visit to Gaza stated that the El-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem belonged to whole Muslims. President Ahmet Necdet Sezer's and Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's programs were changed before Barak's visit. Barak will inform Turkey on the latest developments about the Middle East Peace Process. Sources said Barak would give the message that 'Turkey is an important country in the peace process' by informing Ankara on the latest developments.

    TURKISH SPORTSMEN'S SUCCESS IN KOSICE
    Taner Sagir of Turkey competing in the 59 kg category, won three silver medals while Abdurrezzak Avci of Turkey competing in the same category, won three bronze medals in European Junior Weight-lifting Championship in Kosice, Slovakia.

    YENI BINYIL (LIBERAL)

    FP: ''ISSUES INCLUDED IN KHK, ARE CONTRARY TO LAW''
    Ertan Yulek, the Deputy Chairman of Virtue Party (FP), said, ''issues included in the decree with the force of law (KHK) which foresees dismissal of civil servants who carry out fundamentalist and separatist activities, will be contrary to the law even if it is adopted by the parliament as a law.'' Yulek said, ''Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's attitude regarding the KHK caused moral and material damage in Turkey.''

    CLASH ERUPTS IN SIRNAK, KILLING ONE SECURITY OFFICIAL
    A total of three terrorists were killed in an operation in southeastern Sirnak province. Officials at the Emergency Rule Region Governor's Office said that a clash erupted between security forces and a group of terrorists near Golgeli neighbourhood in Beytussebap township of Sirnak province. Three terrorists were killed. One security official lost his life in the clash.

    TURKIYE (RIGHT)

    SUPER VICTORY
    Galatasaray (Cimbom) won the European Super Cup beating worldwide famous soccer club Real Madrid of Spain 2-1 by golden goal, and pleased the Turkish people living all around the world. UEFA Cup winners Galatasaray crushingly defeated the European champions Real Madrid in Monaco last night and won the Europen Super Cup. Cim Bom once again awarded a victory to the Turkish people in August.

    PRESIDENT SEZER DUE TO U.S.
    President Ahmet Necdet Sezer who will leave for the U.S. on September 4 to attend the United Nations Millenium Summit, will fly with the GAP airplane.

    ARCHIEVES OF AUDIT COURT BURNED
    Important documents were burnt in a fire broke out in the archieves department of the new building of the Audit Court. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit came to the building and got information from the officials. One fireman was affected from the smoke during the efforts to extinguish the fire and hospitalized.

    ZAMAN (CONSERVATIVE)

    WE WARNED
    The private airlines companies which bring three million tourists to Turkey and provide 2 billion U.S. dollars foreign exchange income to Turkey couldn't overcome the economic crisis they faced. The Istanbul Airlines became the first company which decided to stop its flights. The private air companies which encountered difficult situation after the devastating earthquake on August 17, 1999 started to be threaten by a crisis as oil prices increased three fold. Besides, they couldn't obtain support and loan from the government.

    AKBULUT: ''THE DECREE WON'T COME
    TO THE PARLIAMENT BEFORE NOVEMBER''
    Parliament Speaker Yildirim Akbulut said that the decree with the force of law (KHK) on dismissal of civil servants would be brought onto the parliamentary agenda in November 2000 at the earliest. Akbulut said that first of all, the concepts of ''fundamentalism and separatism'' should be clarified.

    RAHSAN ECEVIT: ''CONCESSION CAN'T BE MADE FOR FUNDAMENTALISM''
    Rahsan Ecevit, the deputy leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) and wife of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, said that prevention of the infiltration of the enemies of the regime and the country into the state departments was one of the conditions for protection of exploitation of democracy and human rights.

    300 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS AGREEMENT
    Turkey will sell 211 armored military vehicles to Malaysia in return for 300 million U.S. dollars. This will be the most comprehensive export from the Turkish defense industry.

    ESTEEMED AND MODERATE RELIGIOUS FUNCTIONARY
    Fethullah Gulen made a statement to The New York Times, one of the most trusted and influential newspapers in the U.S. Responding to the questions of The New York Times' Istanbul Representative Frantz, Fethullah Gulen stressed that he did't have a target to found an Islamic regime. Gulen said that he was expending efforts for acceptance of ethnic and ideological differences as a cultural mosaic without any reason for discrimination. In his article, Frantz said that Gulen who brings the moderate dimension of Islam to the forefront was serving Turkey as an unofficial ambassador.

    [02] PRESIDENT SEZER TO ADDRESS TURKISH COMMUNITY IN NEW YORK

    NEW YORK - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will come to New York, the U.S., on September 4 to attend the United Nations' Millennium Summit.

    Sources told the A.A correspondent on Saturday that President Sezer would address the Turkish community living in the U.S. at Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Center on September 5.

    Baki Ilkin, the Turkish Ambassador to the U.S.; Umit Pamir, the Turkish Permament Representative to the United Nations; and Mehmet N. Ezen, the Turkish Consul General in New York, will be in attendance at the meeting which will be organized in cooperation of Turkish-American Associations' Federation (TADF) and the Turkish-American Associations' Assambly (TADA).

    Turkish people from all around the U.S. are expected to attend the meeting.

    [03] MILD EARTHQUAKES JOLT DENIZLI

    DENIZLI - Mild earthquakes measuring 3.1 on Richter scale jolted Aegean Denizli province at 06:39 a.m. and 07:31 a.m. on Saturday.

    Officials at the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory Seismology Institute told the A.A correspondent that both earthquakes were centered on Denizli.

    More than 100 earthquakes have been recorded in Denizli since April 21.

    [04] FOREIGN MINISTER BERDIYEV OF TURKMENISTAN DUE IN TURKEY

    ANKARA - Foreign Minister Batir Berdiyev of Turkmenistan will pay an official visit to Turkey between August 30 and September 1 as the guest of Foreign Minister Ismail Cem.

    Releasing a statement, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that Berdiyev's contacts in Turkey would focus on improvement of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Turkey and Turkmenistan and on efforts to consolidate peace and stability in Central Asia.

    Also other regional and international issues are expected to be taken up during Berdiyev's meetings in Ankara.

    [05] EARTHQUAKES CONTINUE TO JOLT DENIZLI

    DENIZLI - Two more earthquakes occurred in Aegean Denizli province early on Saturday.

    Officials at Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory Seismology Institute told the A.A correspondent that two earthquakes measuring 3.0 and 2.7 on the Richter scale were recorded in Denizli at 09:29 a.m. and 09:40 a.m.

    Both earthquakes were centered on Denizli.

    [06] TWO PEOPLE INJURED IN CELEBRATIONS AFTER GALATASARAY'S SUCCESS

    IZMIR - Two persons were injured in Aegean Izmir province with the shots fired during celebrations after Galatasaray beat Real Madrid of Spain and won European Super Cup.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent on Saturday that Sati Yilmaz, 35, was injured in her left arm after an unidentified person had opened fire into the air in Konak district in Izmir.

    Yilmaz was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

    Meanwhile, Nilufer Kocyigit, 14, was injured in her right shoulder in a similar incident.

    She underwent a surgical operation at the Bozyaka SSK Hospital.

    [07] A BOAT CARRYING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAPSIZES OFF BODRUM

    BODRUM - A boat carrying Pakistani and Afghan immigrants to Kos Island of Greece capsized off Bodrum township of Aegean Mugla province shortly after midnight.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent on Saturday that a Turkish boat which was smuggling nearly 20 Pakistani and Afghan immigrants to Kos Island capsized off Bodrum.

    Coast guard teams pulled out bodies of several people from the sea.

    [08] VESSEL WHICH WAS DRAGGED OFF MARMARA SEA RESCUED

    ISTANBUL - The yacht which was dragged off Marmara Sea and gave distress signal (SOS) after it had used up its fuel off Heybeliada in Istanbul Strait late on Friday was rescued and towed to the Camlik Port early on Saturday.

    Sources said that coast guard boats had found the yacht which belonged to Turkish Kosem Tour in the southwest of Heybeliada.

    Later, ''Tahlifiye 1'' vessel towed the yacht to the Camlik Port.

    There were no reports of casualties or damage to vessel.

    [09] DOCUMENTARY ABOUT CAPPADOCIA TO BE BROADCAST BY MANY TV CHANNELS IN WORLD

    NEVSEHIR - A documentary about Cappadocia will be broadcast by television channels of ten different countries in the world.

    Mehmet Demir, the Culture Director of central Nevsehir province, told the A.A correspondent that six Japanese TV channels, two French TV channels, and one each television channel of China, United Arab Emirates, Australia, United States of America, New Zealand, Germany, Russian Federation and Poland had prepared documentary about Cappodacia's touristic centers Goreme, Avanos, Uchisar, Ortahisar, Cat, Zelve and Mustafapasa.

    Demir said that Cappadocia would be promoted in many countries of the world with the documentary, increasing the number of tourists visiting the region.

    [10] A BOAT CARRYING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAPSIZES OFF BODRUM (2)

    BODRUM - Cumhur Guven Tasbasi, the Head Official of Bodrum township of Aegean Mugla province, said on Saturday there were 32 people aboard the boat capsized between Bodrum and Kos Island of Greece.

    Responding to questions of the A.A correspondent, Tasbasi confirmed that a 8-meter Turkish boat carrying foreigners illegally, capsized.

    ''The boat carrying 32 people, sank off Kos Island at about 05:30 a.m. There were 18 Iraqis, 5 Afghans, 8 Iranians and a woman whose nationality could not be determined aboard the boat. Coast guards teams rescued six people including Tevrat Yakin, the Turkish captain of the boat. Search and rescue efforts are continuing to find missing people,'' he said.

    Earlier reports said that there were Pakistanis among the passengers.

    Officials said that there were no Pakistani citizens aboard the boat.

    [11] A BOAT CARRYING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAPSIZES OFF BODRUM (3)

    BODRUM - Three out of the six people who were rescued from a boat which capsized between Bodrum and Kos Island of Greece, were taken under medical treatment in State Hospital in Bodrum township of Aegean Mugla province on Saturday.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent that two Afghan and one Iraqi people were taken to hospital after their interrogation.

    Responding to questions of journalists, Tevrat Yanik, 27, the skipper of the boat, said, ''I am working as a fisherman in Guzelbahce township of Izmir. After I was offered 1,000 U.S. dollars to smuggle those people to Kos Island, I came to Bodrum from Izmir three days ago.''

    One of the Afghan immigrants said during his interrogation that they had paid 1,000 U.S. dollars per person to flee to Greece.

    Search and rescue efforts are continuing to find missing people.

    Meanwhile, security forces intercepted 42 foreigners in Bodrum on Friday as they were trying to proceed to Greece illegally.

    They were taken into custody for violating Turkish borders and passport law.

    [12] IN FIRST SEVEN MONTHS, 77.5 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS OF THREAD EXPORTED FROM GAP REGION

    GAZIANTEP - The exports of thread from the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region in the first seven months of 2000 decreased 15.7 percent to 77 million 534 thousand U.S. dollars.

    In the same period last year, the region exported 91 million 969 thousand U.S. dollars of thread.

    Officials at the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters' Union, told the A.A correspondent on Saturday that in the first seven months of the year, they exported 27 million 630 thousand U.S. dollars in cotton thread and 49 million 904 thousand U.S. dollars in synthetic thread.

    The majority of the goods were exported to Syria, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Italy, Germany, France, Jordan, Spain, the U.S., Israel, Portugal, Greece, Britain and Romania.

    [13] SECURITY FORCES DETAIN 40 PEOPLE WHO ATTEMPTED TO HOLD AN ILLEGAL DEMONSTRATION IN ISTANBUL

    ISTANBUL - Security forces detained 40 people who attempted to hold an illegal demonstration in Beyoglu district of Istanbul to protest ''F'' type prisons in which inmates are kept in cells instead of large wards.

    A group of members of Solidarity Association of Relatives of Prisoners (TAYAD) gathered on Istiklal Avenue to make a press release.

    Security forces intervened in the group, and called on demonstrators to disperse peacefully.

    After the demonstrators refused to disperse, security forces detained 40 of them.

    [14] OPERATIONS AGAINST TERRORIST DHKP-C IN GAZIANTEP -FOUR OUT OF SEVEN DETAINEES ARRESTED

    GAZIANTEP - Four out of seven members of the Revolutionary Peoples' Liberation Army-Front (DHKP-C) who were taken into custody during operations in southeastern Gaziantep province, were arrested on Saturday.

    After their interrogation was completed at the Directorate of Security, the detainees were taken to the Court House.

    Yusuf Araci, Yilmaz Sarkli, Erdal Gulkaynak and Onder Firat were arrested while Sahin Keskin, Ali Riza Dengiz and Hakan Dana were released to be tried without detention.

    Releasing a statement, the Directorate of Security said on Friday, ''the detainees were involved in several bomb attacks in southern Adana and Hatay provinces, and they were planning to stage a bomb attack on the Incirlik Airbase in Adana in order to protest F type prisons.''

    [15] TURKISH-GREEK FRIENDSHIP -HOUSE OF MARKOS BOYACIOGLU, ONE OF LEADERS OF FORMER JUNTA REGIME IN GREECE, TO BE RESTORED

    TOSYA - The house of Markos Boyacioglu, one of the leaders of former junta regime in Greece, in Tosya township of Kastamonu province in Black Sea region will be restored and opened to visits of tourists.

    The house on Kale Street in Catma Neighborhood in Tosya where Boyacioglu was born in 1906 will become a museum through the initiative of Tosya's Head Official Ramazan Yildirim.

    Sources said that Yildirim, with this objective, would present a dossier to Kastamonu Governor Enis Yeter by setting up connection with the Directorate General of Foundations and Historical Works.

    Omer Kulen, a dentist in Tosya who had emigrated from Yugoslavia to Turkey, said that he had determined after his personal interest and researches that Boyacioglu was born in Tosya, and later emigrated to Greece and met with his relatives during the exchange of people between Turkey and Greece.

    Kulen said, ''Boyacioglu's siblings Eleftoropia and Haralambulos speak Turkish fluently. They told us that they missed Turkey very much. We want to set fire to another friendship torch in Tosya in these days.''

    Markos Boyacioglu who was born in Tosya in 1906 emigrated to Greece during the exchange of people after the World War I. Boyacioglu who founded the Communist Party of Greece became one of the founders of the North Greece Union which was ruled by the junta regime between 1946-1949.

    Boyacioglu who was sent into exile in Moscow in 1981 on charges of his activities for settlement of communist regime in Greece returned back to Greece in 1984 and was elected as a deputy of the governing PASOK party of Andreas Papandreou.

    Boyacioglu died in 1992.

    [16] A BOAT CARRYING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAPSIZES OFF BODRUM (4) -BODIES OF THREE PEOPLE FOUND

    BODRUM - Coast guard teams pulled out bodies of three people from the sea after a Turkish boat carrying 32 illegal immigrants from Bodrum township of Aegean Mugla province to Kos Island of Greece had capsized.

    Officials told the A.A correspondent that coast guard teams found bodies of two men and a woman in the region between Kos Island and Mersincik Island.

    Turkish and Greek coast guard boats backed by a helicopter are searching for survivors, but rescue efforts particularly become difficult due to strong winds and rough waters.

    Earlier in the day, Turkish coast guards rescued six people including the Turkish captain of the boat.

    [17] DPT UNDERSECRETARY IZMIRLIOGLU: ''THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A NEED FOR REVISION IN ECONOMIC PROGRAM''

    ANKARA - State Planning Organization (DPT) Undersecretary Akin Izmirlioglu said on Saturday that there wouldn't be any disruption in the economic stability program.

    ''At this moment, it is not important whether the inflation rate will be 25 or 26 percent at the end of the year. The important thing is the 12 percent inflation rate target at the end of 2001,'' he said.

    Staging a press conference, Izmirlioglu said that there was not a need for absolute decrease to 25 percent inflation rate in December 2000, and it could be reached in January 2001.

    The inflation would absolutely decrease under to 15 and 9 percent, Izmirlioglu said.

    Izmirlioglu said that the inflation would decrease to one-digit numbers by December 31, 2002, and later the growth and prosperity policies would come onto the agenda.

    Stressing that there was not a need for a revision in the economic program, Izmirlioglu said, ''nothing changes if it won't be 25 percent in December 2000. There is currently not any rate that necessitates a revision in 12 percent target for end-2001.''

    [18] VICTORY WEEK -PRESIDENT SEZER: ''WE WILL FULFIL OUR RESPONSIBILITIES TO PROTECT AND DEVELOP SECULAR AND DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF TURKEY FOUNDED AFTER TOUGH STRUGGLES''

    ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said on Saturday, ''we will fulfil our responsibilities to protect and develop secular and democratic Republic of Turkey which was founded after tough struggles.''

    Issuing a written statement to mark the Victory Week, President Sezer stressed, ''the Turkish nation has never accepted to live under captivity, and always succeeded in eradicating threats against its independence and country.''

    ''August became the scene of important victories which consolidated unity and solidarity of our nation. On August 26, 1071, Anatolia opened its gates to the Turkish nation after the Malazgirt Battle Victory. In August again, Anatolia became eternal homeland of the Turkish people after our soldiers led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the Founder of modern Republic of Turkey, won their struggle for independence. The Great Attack which started on August 26, 1922, was a milestone in the path leading to foundation of the Republic of Turkey. We will fulfil our responsibilities to protect and develop secular and democratic Republic of Turkey which was founded after tough struggles,'' he emphasized.

    He added, ''I commemorate with great respect and gratitute Great Leader and Statesman Ataturk and those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country.''

    [19] STATE MINISTER ONAL: ''THE SEVEN-MONTH STATISTICS OF ECONOMIC PROGRAM ARE PLEASING''

    CESME - State Minister Recep Onal said on Saturday that the seven-month statistics of the economic program were pleasing.

    Speaking at a meeting in the Association of Industrialists and Businessmen of Aegean (ESIAD), Onal explained the Disinflation and Macroeconomic Restructuring Program, and expressed his expectations.

    Onal said that the government had given for the start for a very serious and comprehensive disinflation and macroeconomic restructuring program in order to put an end to the 50-year struggle and give response to the Turkish people's longing for economic stability.

    Onal stressed that the government stood behind the program and continued its determination in reaching the targets.

    ''Our determination will continue till the end of the program. The most urgent and prior duty of us is to decrease the inflation to one-digit numbers,'' Onal said.

    [20] AGRICULTURE AND RURAL AFFAIRS MINISTER GOKALP DUE TO HUNGARY AND CZECH REPUBLIC

    ANKARA - Husnu Yusuf Gokalp, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister, will pay official visits to Hungary and Czech Republic in September.

    Releasing a statement, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ministry said on Saturday that Gokalp would leave for Hungary on September 3 as the guest of Dr. Jozsef Torgyan, the Hungarian Agriculture and Regional Development Minister.

    Gokalp will visit the 73rd National Agriculture and Foodstuff Fair and several agricultural facilities in Budapest.

    Gokalp will sign ''Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Veterinary'' and ''Cooperation Agreement on Protection of Plants''

    He will proceed to Czech Republic on September 6 after wrapping up his contacts in Hungary.

    Gokalp's contacts in Czech Republic are expected to focus on agricultural relations between the two countries.

    Within framework of his visit to Czech Republic, Gokalp will sign the ''Cooperation Agreement in the Fields of Agriculture and Food Industry''.

    Gokalp and accompanying delegation are expected to return to Turkey on September 9.

    [21] FEHRIYE ERDAL ENDS HUNGER STRIKE

    BRUSSELS - Fehriye Erdal, a member of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) and one of suspects of assasination of businessman Ozdemir Sabanci in 1996, ended her hunger strike on Saturday.

    Lieven Van Melle, the Press Spokesman of Belgian Interior Ministry, said that they had taken several decisions regarded with Erdal following three- day meetings.

    Noting that Erdal ended her hunger strike, Van Melle said that she would be taken to another house within Belgian territories.

    Van Melle told reporters that Erdal was banned from political activities during her presence in Belgium.

    Noting that they had been waiting for Erdal's and her lawyers' decision for a week, Van Melle said that the two sides had reached a consensus of opinion at last.

    When asked whether or not Erdal would be sent to a third country, Van Melle refrained from responding to the question.

    He also declined answering questions whether or not Erdal was released completely.

    Meanwhile, Jan Fermon, one of Erdal's lawyers, said that all bans on her were lifted, and added that she would be able to talk freely.

    Fermon claimed that the Belgian government would investigate the issue of ''the National Intelligence Organization's (MIT) attempt to kidnap Erdal'' and ask Turkey for information.

    He also added that Erdal would go on hunger strike again if the requirements of agreement reached with the Belgian officials, were not met.

    [22] EUROPEAN SUPER CUP WINNERS GALATASARAY ARRIVE IN ISTANBUL

    ISTANBUL - UEFA Cup and European Super Cup winners Galatasaray arrived in Istanbul on Saturday.

    Almost 150 Galatasaray supporters greeted the players and technical staff with flowers at the Ataturk Airport, and chanted slogans ''Super Mario Jardel'', ''that's enough Jardel, that's enough'' and ''I love you Hagi''.

    They also unfurled banners that said ''We Thank Conqueror Galatasaray Who Honored Turkish Nation and Wish Them Success'' and ''There Is Nothing Left To Prove''.

    Meanwhile, many television channels broadcast live the arrival of Galatasaray in Istanbul.
