Research will focus on molecular mechanisms of viral pathogenesis as related to two viral model systems, namely the Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KHSV / HHV 8) and the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). More specifically, the project will examine the molecular interactions between key viral gene products (candidate oncogenes) and host cell proteins involved in cell cycle regulation, with a view to characterizing mechanisms contributing to viral pathogenesis (see Nature (1997) 385:347 & Nature (1998) 391:86). Applicants should be holders of biomedical or medical degrees, and should ideally have previous experience with basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques. Monthly salary of 200,000 DRS (pre-tax) is guaranteed for a minimum of three years, starting January 1999, and can be extended depending on the progress of the project. Please submit a Curriculum Vitae with names and addresses of three references to: Leandros Arvanitakis, Ph.D.
