[07] THE RUSSIAN COMMUNIST PARTY LEADER SUPPORTS A FAIR AND VIABLE SOLUTION FOR THE CYPRUS PROBLEMWeb Posted: 16:36 GMT+2Nicosia 17 May (MPA)Russian Communist party leader Genadi Zuganov met with Cypriot President Glafkos Clerides in Nicosia and expressed the position that his country should play a greater role in the solution of the problems in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.Mr.Zuganov reiterated that Russia supports a fair and viable solution for the Cyprus problem which will safeguard the territorial integrity of Cyprus and the protection of human rights. Referring to the military agreement between Israel and Turkey and to the promotion by the US of a new world order, mr.Zuganov stated that they can lead to an escalation of the crisis in the region. He also added that the countries of the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Europe and the Russian Federation must work to defuse the tensions. Also, mr.Zuganov characterized the agreement for the expansion of NATO eastwards as the biggest mistake of Europe since the Second World War.
