  • [01] Day Two without Metro Services

    Day two without metro services in Athens, as the metro employees are on a 48-hour strike, demanding the signing of the 2008 collective work contract. Transport Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said the metro employees cannot expect to be treated differently from the ETHEL employees, who agreed to sign the GSEE (Greek General Confederation of Labour) collective work contract.

    [02] Signs of Recovery in Asian Markets

    Asian markets have started recovering after the initial losses sustained. Tokyo's Nikkei rose to 2.70 percent, while Seoul was up by 5.8 percent and Hong Kong by 4.5 percent. Dow Jones in New York closed Thursday at -5.56 percent, while the European markets reported losses that exceeded 4 percent. In the meantime, oil prices have posted a slight rise, with crude oil amounting to something more than $50 per barrel in Asia trading.

    [03] US Attorney General Collapses

    US Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed while delivering a speech at a hotel in Washington. He was hurried to hospital. "The Attorney General is conscious, conversant and alert," read a statement released by the Department of Justice, further adding that his vital statistics were strong and he was in a good mood.
