The quake took place 10 kilometres below ground, with its epicentre registered 51 kilometres north-east of Indonesia. Hundreds of houses suffered extensive damage. However, there have been no reports on casualties or tsunami warning. Two aftershocks followed the main quake. As per an official, 200 houses suffered extensive damage in Pekat, 40 kilometres from the epicentre of the quake and 75 more in Sangar.
