A girls school dormitory collapsed in central Turkey on Friday due to a gas canister explosion, killing 13 students and injuring at least 23, local authorities said. At least two of the injured are in critical condition while there may still be 7-8 students under the rubble.

Osman Aydin, the governor for Konya province, said emergency teams are trying to pull out three students still alive under the debris. Television footage showed injured girls being carried from a minibus into a hospital in a nearby town. The building in the Konya province was being used as a dormitory for students taking part in a course on the Koran. An estimated 40 girls, between the ages of eight and 16, were staying at the dormitory.

    [03] Researchers Announced

    Water on Mars Confirmed!

    01 Αυγ 2008 09:22:00

    Sources: ΝΕΤ, ΑNA

US space agency NASA on Friday says it has proof that water exists on Mars, after further tests on ice found on the planet in June by the Phoenix Mars Lander.

"Its something weve been waiting quite a while for," said William Boynton, lead scientist for the Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyser instrument, "Weve now finally touched it and tasted it."

After years of proposing, theorizing and deducing that there is water on Mars, at least in the form of ice, researchers have finally confirmed it, after the Phoenix lander detected traces of water vapour wafting off a scoop of Martian dirt. Dr Boynton said that water was positively identified after the landers robotic arm delivered a soil sample on Wednesday to an instrument that identifies vapours produced by heating. "The fact that it melted at zero degrees Celsius leaves very little doubt that it is standard water ice," Boynton said. He said sensors also tested the chemical makeup of the vapour and found the familiar combination of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
