    Clearing skies and chilly conditions are forecast for Monday with only a chance of sporadic rainfall in the south and snow flurries in the mountainous regions. North to northeasterly winds, strong to gale force strength at times, on the Aegean.

    The temperature in Athens will range from 4 to 11 C and in the Thessaloniki from &#8211;2 to 3 degrees.

    [02] Low temperatures prevail

    Despite the fact that the weather conditions that caused serious problems in Western and Northern Greece have begun improving, the temperature will remain at low levels. The prefectures of Evros and Rodopi have been declared in a state of emergency, while the level of the waters of Evros has exceeded the safety level. However, the situation is under control.

    At the same time, anti skid chains are required for all vehicles using the road network in Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly due to the heavy snowfall that has also blocked many villages.

    Finally, schools will remain shut at the prefectures of Kilkis, Kozani and Florina today.

    [03] Sotto to visit Nicosia & Athens

    In an attempt to allow negotiations begin on the basis of the Annan plan, United Nations special envoy Alvaro de Soto is expected to fly from Ankara to Nicosia.

    On Thursday, Mr De Soto will visit Athens.

    Meanwhile, reactions against Turkish Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash's intransigent stance and preparations for tomorrow's big demonstration are continuing in the occupied territories of Cyprus.

    [04] Papandreou to visit the Balkans

    Foreign Minister George Papandreou begins a three-day tour of western Balkan countries on Monday, in his capacity as president of the EU ministers' council.

    One of the minister's goals, according to reports, is to examine cooperation between those countries and the European Union with a view to bolster their EU accession prospects.

    The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) is the first stop on Papandreou's tour.

    [05] Rogge to discuss preparation status of Olympic projects

    The President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge, who is expected in Athens in the afternoon, is meeting with Prime Minister Costas Simitis and the New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis. Mr Rogge, who will be accompanied by the President of the Coordination Commission, is to discuss with his interlocutors the preparation status of Olympic works.

    Finally, the biministerial Committee will meet at noon today to discuss about the Olympic Games.
