    A mainly cloudy day is forecast in all parts of the country, which will gradually turn to rain in the west by evening. Early morning mist is expected. Winds southeasterly, light to moderate turning strong in the Ionian Sea later in the afternoon. Temperatures in Athens will range between 13C and 20C and in Thessaloniki from 10C to 17C.

    [02] Cyprus , Euro-army focus of Greek goverment s talks at NATO summit

    The Cyprus issue and the European Rapid Reaction force are the focus of the Greek goverment s talks during the NATO summit which opens today in Prague. Prime-minister Kostas Simitis will continue his contacts with leaders of E.U member states .

    Mr. Simitis had friendly half hour talks with the American President , George Bush and Turkish President , Ahmet Sezer while German, British and Italian leaders briefed Mr. Simitis on Turkey s hopes of winning a date at the E.U summit in Copenhagen next month for launhing accesion negotiations.The Greek Prime-minister clarified that Greece s position depended on Turkey s stance regarding the UN Secretary General Cyprus peace plan and the Euro-army .

    In the meantime, Foreign Minister, George Papandreou reconfirmed the Greek goverment s determination for the conclusion of Cyprus-E.U accesion negotiations , saying that Greece will veto E.U enlargement in the event that a E.U member state leader objects to Cyprus admission on the grounds that the Cyprus political problem has not been resolved

    U.N Sec, Gen. Kofi Annan will confer with his special envoy ALVARO de Soto on Friday in search of a way to move forward his peace plan for Cyprus which has stalled over the ilness of the Turkish &#8211;Cypriot leader Raulf Dektash.

    Meanwhile, following his talks with British Prime-minister, Tony Blair , the leader of Turkey s new ruling Justice and Development party , Tayyip Erdogan hinted at a softer stance favouring a parallel promotion of the Cyprus issue , the Euro-army and Greek-Turkish relations. During his meeting in Brussels with the E.U Commission President , Romano Prodi, Mr . Erdogan brought on the issue of setting a date at the E.U summit in Copenhagen for the opening of Turkey-E.U accesion negotiations . Commission President admitted Turkey s progress on the criteria for political and human rights reforms but insisted on the implementation of decisions taken by the Turkish National Assembly.

    [03] Farmers protest against delay in compensation pays

    Farmers have blocked the Athens &#8211;Kozani national road at the part of the Tyrnavos wine plant protesting against the dealy of compensation payments .

    Agriculture Minister, Giorgos Drys repeated the goverment s commitment that compensations will have been paid till the end of November while financial aid for damages suffered from 1999 to 2000 due to bad weather conditions and fire will start being paid from December.
