    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today scattered cloud all over the country. In the afternoon hours rain and thunderstorms will fall on the Ionian islands and mainland.

    Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Athens and Thessaloniki in the afternoon hours, while the temperature will range from 19-29 and 19-28 degrees Centigrate respectively.

    [02] State mechanism on the alert for more floods

    In statements made with NET 105.8, Interior Deputy Minister Lambros Papadimas said that those hit by floods will be compensated the soonest possible.

    Meanwhile, the special restoration centres with employees from all ministries aiming at the prompt restoration of damages will begin operating at the municipalities of Rendis, Moschato and Phaliron as of Monday.

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis has ordered additional financial aid to be given to residents of these areas. At the same time, government spokesman Costas Laliotis admitted that mistakes were made in the mobilisation of the state mechanism.

    Regarding political responsibilities, these were inflicted with the ousting of the Secretary General of Political Protection Dimitris Papanikolaou stated Mr Christos Protopapas.

    From its side, the New Democracy party spokesman Thedoris Rousopoulos stated that the government manifested criminal negligence and could not be hiding behind Mr Papanikolaou&#8217; ousting.

    Moreover, the Synaspismos leader Nikos Konstantopoulos spoke of policies promoted for satisfying financial interests and clientele relations.

    On a relative development, with the state mechanism on the alert for a possible overflow of Kifisos river and the aversion of floods, it has been decided that metal stoppers be raised on the banks of the river, while Katsonis bridge in Moschato and possibly Agia Anna bridge will be demolished. Additionally, these municipalities will be supplied with more staff.

    Meanwhile, the Mayors of Moschato, Rendis and Piraeus are organising a demonstration at Pireaus and Kiffisos junction with Kifisos river at 18:30 today.

    In an interview with NET 105.8, Rendis Mayor Giorgos Ioakimides stated that the demonstration aims at pressing the state for a faster restoration of damages and fast compensations.

    [03] Cotton price higher than last year

    The price of cotton will be higher in relation to last year. The competent managerial European Union Committee decided that the minimum cotton price per kilo for producers will be 218 drachmas (0,64 euros). According to Agriculture Minister Giorgos Drys, the Committee accepted Greece&#8217;s data for the this year&#8217;s estimated quantity that will be 61,978 tones.

    Meanwhile, farmers from Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly are organising a demonstration upon Prime Minister Costas Simitis&#8217; arrival in Thessaloniki on Friday at 18:00.
