[03] Investigations on domestic terrorism continue

The ongoing investigations on domestic terrorism is now centered on the collection of grounded evidence for the arrest of members of the ELA group – no longer operative- and the arrest of Dimitris Koufontinas.

New evidence , relating to the activities of members of the November 17 urban guerilla group , has come to light , following further testimony by arrested terrorist suspects. In a surprise twist , Hristodoulos Xiros has named a fellow suspect as a close associate of alleged November 17 leader Alexandros Giotopoulos. Xiros claims that Theologos psaradelis was known to other members under the code –name Fotis and had a say in the ideological directions of the group.

Psaradelis maintained in his testimony that he was never a member of the terrorist organisation and had merely kept watch during a bank robbery , without being aware that November 17 was behind the heist . His claims have been backed up by Hristodoulos Xiro s brother , Savvas , who is still being treated in hospital , after a bomb blew up in his hands two months ago.

Meanwhile , a Sudanese friend of Savvas Xiros has given evidence to the counter –terrorism squad that the injured bomber had visited areas in Sudan , where guerilla rebels were being trained . Xiros is expected to be transferred to Korydallos prison today.
