    [01] Simitis calls for unity withing PASOK

    Following the end of the sessions of PASOK party's Central Committee on Saturday, Prime Minister Kostas Simitis addressed a message of unity. The text on PASOK's positions prepared by the Executive Bureau was approved by the vast majority. The Prime Minister said that unity was a social necessity, adding that any insistence on personal strategies was hurting PASOK.

    In the meantime, today's issue of the daily "Ta Nea" reveals that Environment minister Kostas Laliotis will be a candidate for the position of PASOKs Secretary. Referring to changes in the government in the case of a re-shuffle, he said that it was obvious that all government re-shuffles began from scratch. From his side, Deputy Labour minister Christos Protopapas described Mr. Laliotis' decision as especially positive.

    Finally, Foreign minister Yiorgos Papandreou stated that he might run for PASOK's leadership in the future, clarifying that presently he was supporting Mr. Simitis. Additionally, he proposed radical changes in the partys charter.

    [02] A. Papandreou's statue to be unveilled

    On the occasion of the 27th anniversary from the creation of PASOK party, National Defence minister A. Tsochatzopoulos will unveil A. Papandreous statue in front of the Dalipis camp in Thessaloniki this afternoon.

    [03] Social measures to be anounced at the Thessaloniki Trade Fair

    The measures regarding the government's social policy will be finalized tomorrow during a government committee meeting and will be anounced at the Thessaloniki Trade Fair by the Prime Minister.

    Meanwhile, Mr. Simitis is going to receive a delegation of the General Confederation of Greek Workers in the afternoon and later he will meet with the Greek Industrialists Association.

    Finally, New Democracy party leader Kostas Karamanlis is meeting today with the General Confederation of Workers of Northern Greece.

    [04] Vartholomeos reiterates the demand for the re-functioning of the Chalki Theological School

    Yesterday, Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos reiterated the demand for the re-functioning of the Chalki Theological School, accusing Turkey of violating and ignoring International agreements that protect individual and minorities' rights and of obstucting its re-opening.

    [05] Identity cards issue open for New Democracy

    Referring to allegations according to which he has political ambitions, Archbishop Christodoulos described them as "black propaganda".

    Meanwhile, Education minister Petros Efthymiou said that the identity cards issue had closed from a legal point of view.

    However, New Democracy party spokesman Prokopis Pavlopoulos stated that the issue of the identity cards remained open for his party.
