    [01] Gore 2% ahead of Bush

    Few hours before the opening of ballot -stations for the election of the 43rd United States President and the elctions outcome is still in doubt .

    The latest tracking poll issued found Democratic candidate Al Gore, 2% ahead of Republican candidate George Bush ,48% to 46% while Green Party candidate Ralph Nader polling 4%.

    [02] EU-Turkey partnership relation plan

    The EU - Turkey partnership relation plan proposed by EU Commissioner rersponsible on EU's enlargement , Gynter Ferhoihen , sets strict terms for the country's democratisation course and the solution of the Kurdish issue.

    The plan also urges Ancara to work towards a solution of the Cyprus issue and a peaceful settlement of Greek-Turkish differences according to the Helsinsky agreement without however considering binding its stand on these issues .

    On its part the Greek side's aim is the inclusion of the Cyprus issue , Greek-Turkish relations and recourse to the International Court in the Hague regarding Turkey's short and medium term obligations .

    [03] Development Minister Nikos Hristodoulakis on an official visist to Yõgoslavia

    Development Minister ,Nikos Hristodoulakis , who is on an official visit to Yugoslavia ,met with the new Yiougoslav President Voislav Kostunica yesterday .

    In a press interview yesterday ,Mr.Hristodoulakis said that Greece would continue supplying Yiougoslavia with electric power and fuel .

    He also referred to the prospects for cooperation in the technology , industry ,trade and tourist sectors as well as to the high interest of Greek state companies such as DEH and Hellenic Oil companies in the privatisation procedure of the respective Yiougoslav state companies .

    [04] Greek economy

    The sharp rise in the price of oil and the dollar have oushed inflation up to 3,8% in October compared to 3,1% in September.

    Additional rises in the price of cigarettes , about 50drs per package , and 12,5% and 8,5% rise in railway and taxi fares also burdened the price index. In the meantime ,oil will go down by 12 to 13 drs per liter as from tonight as the price of crude oil went down in international markets and the euro is gaining against the dollar .

    [05] Changes in labour relations

    The Labour Ministry is expected to make its final proposals on new labour relations next Thursday ,while the General Confederation of Greek Workers is expected to determine its final stand on the same day.The President of the GCGW has warned with strike mobilisations .

    The draftbill on the ew labour relations will have been submitted to the Parliament by the end of November .

    In an interview with the Greek state radio , Mr.Yiannitsis ruled the GCGW demand for a 35 hour working week but underlined that his proposal for a 38 hour weekly work paved the way for the future implementation of the 35 hour weekly work .

    [06] Stock market

    On the Athens stock market yesterday ,the general share index dropped by 1,69% to close at 3.727,49 points.

    The volume of transactions reached a new record low of 32,1 billion drs
