[01] PM Tsipras: FT's article on Greek GDP data is 'best response to
doomsayers'
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras responded to an article published in the
Financial Times on Friday, which commented favourably on Greek economic
data and titled "Greece surprises with economic growth", saying it is
"the best response to doomsayers".
Greece posted a 0.3 percent GDP growth in the second quarter of the year,
compared to the first quarter of this year, defying expectations for a
negative rate. The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) also said the
GDP contracted 0.7 percent compared with the same period of 2015. In
terms of volume, the economy contracted by 0.1 percent in the second
quarter, year-on-year.
[02] All three fires on Corfu contained
All three fires that broke out over the course of the afternoon in
different parts of Corfu on Friday have been brought under control,
the head of the local fire department told ANA-MPA.
Efthimis Georgakopoulos said fire fighters and the two aircraft sent
to assist managed to contain the flames after four hours, despite the
strong winds hampering their efforts.
"The wildfires that broke out in the areas of Linia in Chlomos, the
area of Barbati, but also the area of Strongyli have been brought under
control, while first estimations show about 30,000 square meters of
farmland have been burned," he said.
