  • [01] The Cretan tequila "Opuntia Spirit" enters the Greek market

    "Opuntia Spirit", the Cretan tequila, made of prickly pear, will be presented to the Greek market on June 2.

    "Opuntia" is the Latin name of prickly pear. The genus is named after the ancient Greek city of Opus, where, according to Theophrastus, an edible plant grew which could be propagated by rooting its leaves.

    It will be launched in the 5th Exhibition "Crete - The Great Meeting" to be held on June 2-5 at the Peace and Friendship stadium in Athens.

    [02] Fifteen people injured in clashes at Samos hotspot

    Fifteen people were injured in clashes that broke out at a hotspot on Samos island on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body Giorgos Kyritsis tweeted.

    Eight of them needed treatment and another one was being hospitalized.

    [03] Wooden boat with 600 refugees in danger; 250 rescued

    At least 250 undocumented migrants have been rescued so far in the sea region 75 nautical miles south of Crete after the wooden vessel they were board took on water.

    A coast guard patrol vessel, an aircraft and a Super Puma helicopter assisted by four vessels that were sailing nearby are in the taking part in the rescue operation.

    According to initial information, approximately 600 migrants were on board the wooden vessel.
