  • [01] PM Tsipras says he's 'pleased' with his meeting with farmers

    Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday he's pleased with the talks held earlier on Monday with the representatives of farmers from dozens of roadblocks around the country, adding that he hoped protesters will appreciate the government's efforts to find a solution.

    In three Twitter posts on his Greek account, Tsipras said discussions "touched upon all the issues facing the farmers," and added that "the 25 measures we presented, reflect both the understanding and the desire to continue the dialog through the National Network of Agricultural Policy."

    He then added: "I'm sure the farmers' assemblies will stand positively towards our government's sincere efforts to find solutions."

    [02] Surge in arrival of Mideast migrants, refugees recorded over recent days

    A passenger ferry carrying 1,280 Mideast refugees and irregular migrants arrived at the port of Piraeus on Monday evening from the eastern Aegean islands of Lesvos and Chios, after the numbers of landings of third country nationals on Greek islands from the opposite Turkish coast surged over the last few days.

    Many of the people were expected to be transferred to temporary accommodation centers. Earlier in the morning, another 1,600 third country natoinals arrived at Greece's largest port.
