  • [01] PM Tsipras: 'We can't remain indifferent over the tax exceptions applied for us'

ANA - MPA -- A meeting called by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the taxation of MPs salaries as well as the reduction of the ministers, Public Utilities and Organisation chiefs and the presidents of Independent Administration authorities' allowances was concluded at that Maximos mansion.

"When the abolition of the farmers' allowances is on the negotiations table we can't remain indifferent over the tax exceptions applied for us..." said Tsipras according to government sources. The prime minister also noted that the draft law that abolishes the MPs tax free must be tabled immediately in parliament underlining that "it is not only a political initiative with economic results but also with a symbolic context".

Alternate Administration Reform Minister Christoforos Vernardakis, Alternate Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas and the Cabinet secretary Spyros Sagias participated in the meeting.

[02] German finance ministry denies requesting solution to refugee crisis as prerequisite for Greek deal

BERLIN (ANA-MPA/F. Karaviti) – Germany's finance ministry rejected on Sunday a report in Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung which alleged Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Steffen had asked for Greece to settle the refugee problem first, before any aid program is agreed, during a teleconference on Friday night.

"The ministry denies it," the ministry said, according to the German news agency (dpa), adding that Steffen reminded the teleconference that Greece – according to the July 12 summit agreement - needed to modernize its public administration and that this needs to be integrated in the Memorandum of Understanding.

It goes without saying that this modernization, the ministry told dpa, includes all the sectors of the Greek public administration.
