[01] Four Greek paintings in top 10 sellers at Sotheby's auction
AMNA--Four of the 10 top sellers at a Sotheby's "European Paintings"
auction in London on Tuesday evening were the works of Greek artists,
in the first-time inclusion of the up-to-now independent "Greek Sale"
in the "European Paintings" sale.
The "European Paintings" Sale brought together some 242 works comprising
Spanish Painting, The Scandinavian Sale, The Greek Sale and German,
Austrian and Central European Paintings.
The top Greek seller was Nikolaos Ghizis' "The Dance of the Nymphs",
which was sold for 308,433 euros, followed by Theodoros Ralli's "The
Sleeping Concubine" was sold for 224,711 euros, more than double the
initial asking (starting) price of 80-120,000 euros.
Nicos Eggonopoulos' "Alexandros Philippou and the Greeks without the
Spartans" was sold for 173,197 euros, and Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika's
"Countryside" sold for 173,197 euros.
