Ana-Mpa/Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou defended a
government-sponsored social insurance draft law, speaking on Wednesday
before a relevant Parliamentary committee.
Papaconstantinou briefed the committee over new social insurance
reforms, focusing on the levelling of retirement age for men and women
employed in the vast public sector and clarified that consultations
with the European Commission over the definitive form of the draft law
in question are still in progress.Ana-Mpa
He also sternly defended the draft law clause which provides that the
retirement age for women be changed to equal men's retirement age.
Papaconstantinou stated that it is "unreasonable for women, who have a
longer life expectancy than men, to retire earlier than they do."
