[01] KKE on Bhutto assassination
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) on Friday joined the country's
other political forces in condemning Thursday's assassination of
Pakistani ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
In a press release, the communist party first declares its complete
solidarity with the long-suffering Pakistani people, noting that the
attack should not serve as an alibi for any new "witch hunt" against
migrants and refugees living in Greece, particularly ones from
Pakistan.
Finally, the party called on the Greek government to "disengage" the
country from "imperialistic designs and operations, such as in
Afghanistan, Lebanon and elsewhere."

[02] Archbishop Christodoulosâ New Yearâs message
In his customary New Yearâs message addressed to the faithful,
Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos on Friday referred to
the "eternal course of time, of death, which is the common fate of all
human beings and of the relief and comfort found in Christian faith."
The ailing Archbishop also urges the faithful not to abrogate their
principles, traditions and origins, but instead to educate their
children in accordance with them.
