Greeks went once again to the polls this Sunday to vote for the run off elections and choose their local governments both on a municipal and prefecture level.

Last Sunday several of the candidates managed to gain more than 50 per cent of the vote and be elected as mayors or prefects, however, as the Greek constitution mandates, those candidates in the majority of municipalities and prefectures that did manage to garner more than the required 50 pre cent of the vote will have to endure a run off election.

The two candidates with the most votes will face off in most areas, with the largest municipality and prefecture, Athens and Attica respectively, up for grabs.

Already since Friday, the two major metropolitan centers of Greece, Athens and Thessaloniki witnessed an exodus of those of their residents that vote in their hometowns taking advantage of the good weather forecasted for the weekend.
