    US Ambassador to Athens Thomas Miller and main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Costas Karamanlis exchanged views Tuesday on the situation in Afghanistan and other regions.

    Miller, who called on Karamanlis at the ND headquarters, told reporters after the meeting that they had an exchange of views on the situation in Afghanistan and other regions during their "very satisfactory and good discussion".

    The American envoy noted that the meeting was part of the "regular contacts each American ambassador in Athens must have", and described ND as a "responsible party" that "takes responsible positions".

    The US embassy in Athens, including the consular section, the US general consulate in Thessaloniki and all US government offices in Greece, will be closed on Thursday, November 22, in observance of Thanksgiving Day, a US national holiday.

    Cloud, rain and storms are forecast throughout the country on Tuesday, with snow falling on high ground in the centre and north of the country. Winds variable, moderate, turning very strong to gale force in the Aegean. In the north, temperatures will range from 3C to 13C; on the rest of the mainland and the Ionian from 9C to 19C; and in the Aegean islands from 11C to 20C. Rain and storms in Athens, gradually easing off, with temperatures from 13C and 19C. Showers in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 8C to 12C.

    [05] Greek film awards at the Thessaloniki Int'l Film Festival

    "The only voyage in his life" by Lakis Papastathis won first prize for best film in the Greek section of the 42nd Thessaloniki International Film Festival which ended on Monday.

    The second prize went to "The 7th sun of love" by Vangelis Serntaris and the third prize to "The vow" by Andreas Pantzis.

    The best actor award was won by George Horafas for his performance in "The vow".

    The best actress award went to Maria Zorba for her performance in "Save me".

    Vangelis Serntaris won the best director award.

    Present at the ceremony was Macedonia-Thrace Minister George Paschalidis.

    The presentation of the awards was held at the Thessaloniki Music Hall.
