[01] La Commission propose de continuer soutenir le Fonds communautaire
du tabac pour financer des actions de sensibilisation aux dangers du tabac
La Commission européenne a proposé de prolonger de deux ans le
financement du Fonds communautaire du tabac. Depuis la réforme de
l'organisation commune de marché dans le secteur du tabac en 2004, le
Fonds a financé des programmes d'information visant sensibiliser le
public aux effets nocifs de la consommation de tabac. En ce qui concerne la
période de financement actuelle, le Fonds soutient la campagne "HELP, pour
une vie sans tabac!" (voir <a href="http://www.help-eu.co">www.help-eu.co).
[02] Commission offers direct support to private freight transport services
that reduce road transport, congestion and environmental impact
The European Commission has today published the second call for proposals
for the creation and upgrade of freight transport services under the Marco
Polo II programme. Successful projects should fight congestion on European
roads and improve the environmental performance of the freight transport
system, two main objectives of the EU transport policy. Companies across
the European Union and beyond are invited to submit proposals in the second
Marco Polo programme.
[03] Commission clears acquisition of Ruetgers by Triton
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger
Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of Ruetgers Chemicals
(Ruetgers) of Germany by Triton Managers II Limited (Triton) of Jersey, the
Channel Islands. Triton is a private equity company. Ruetgers is a coal tar
chemical company mainly active in the production and refining of basic
aromatics. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review
procedure.

Le Commissaire Louis Miche,l membre de la Commission européenne en charge
du Développement et de l'Aide Humanitaire, suit avec une forte
préoccupation les événements au Tchad où des colonnes armées de
rebelles avancent vers Ndjamena dans la tentative de prendre le pouvoir par
la force.

Le Commissaire Louis Michel, membre de la Commission européenne en charge
du Développement et de l'Aide Humanitaire, s'est félicité de
l'élection du nouveau Président de la Commission de l'Union Africaine, M.
Jean Ping.
[06] Industrial producer prices up by 0.1% in euro area
In December 2007 compared with November 2007, the industrial producer price
index rose by 0.1% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.2% in the EU27. In
November prices increased by 0.9% and 1.2% respectively. In December 2007
compared with December 2006, industrial producer prices gained 4.3% in the
euro area and 4.5% in the EU27. These figures come from Eurostat.
[07] Press invited to attend the launch event of the Enterprise Europe
Network
The new business support network 'Enterprise Europe Network'’ will be
launched by European Commission Vice President Günter Verheugen on 7
February 2008 in Brussels. It unites more than 500 business support
organisations in Europe and beyond, offering integrated services to small
and medium sized enterprises. The launch event will bring together
representatives of the European Commission, European Economic and Social
Committee and Committee of Regions with presidents of business
organisations and SMEs. Commissioner for Science and Research Janez
Potočnik and Slovenian Minister of Economy Andrej Vizjak will also be
present at the conference at Tour & Taxis, Brussels. More information on
