  • [01] La Commission propose une stratégie européenne pour les étiquettes radio intelligentes

    Un an exactement après le lancement d'une vaste consultation publique européenne sur les étiquettes intelligentes (radio frequency identification ou RFID), la Commission européenne a dévoilé aujourd'hui ses propositions de stratégie européenne pour les étiquettes radio intelligentes. La Commission propose notamment qu'il soit tenu compte des inquiétudes des Européens en matière de respect de la vie privée, afin d'accroître la confiance des consommateurs et de renforcer la position de l'Europe sur un marché dont la croissance mondiale est de 60%.

    [02] Commission clears acquisition of SIG by Rank

    The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of sole control of SIG Holding AG (SIG) of Switzerland by Rank Group Holdings Limited (Rank) of New Zealand. Rank is an investment company with stakes in many sectors, including carton packaging via the US company Evergreen. SIG is active in aseptic carton packaging solutions and plastic packaging solutions. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

    [03] Andris Piebalgs welcomes the agreement on the construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline

    European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomed today the signature of an agreement between Russia, Greece and Bulgaria on the construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline. This new infrastructure will link the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Burgas with the Greek Mediterranean port of Alexandroupolis. The Construction of this pipeline will reduce the increasing pressure of maritime oil transport through the Bosphorus and the Dardanel straights.

    [04] SESAR : rapport d'étape sur l'avancement du projet de modernisation du ciel européen

    La Commission européenne vient d'adopter une communication présentant l'état d'avancement du projet SESAR, dont la phase de développement est en train d'être lancée. SESAR, le projet de modernisation de l’infrastructure de contrôle aérien donne une nouvelle dimension au Ciel Unique Européen en le dotant de technologies modernes et de nouvelles méthodes de travail. Il assurera une plus grande efficacité dans la gestion de la sécurité des vols, tout en permettant de minimiser l'impact du transport aérien sur l'environnement. La nouvelle phase ambitieuse dans laquelle nous entrons – celle du développement des nouvelles générations d'outils de contrôle aérien – est d'ores et déjà placée sous de bons auspices, notamment de partenariat fort entre le secteur public et l'industrie.

    [05] Inauguration de la Ligne à Grande Vitesse Est européenne: la liaison ferroviaire entre Paris et Bratislava lancée à grande vitesse

    Jacques Barrot, vice président de la Commission européenne en charge des Transports, inaugure le 15 mars 2007 la Ligne à Grande Vitesse Est européenne. Le plus grand chantier ferroviaire de ce début de siècle achève sa première phase de travaux, qui ont été cofinancés par l'Union européenne à hauteur de €241 millions. Cette nouvelle liaison ferroviaire placera Strasbourg à 2h20 de Paris dès juin 2007 et ouvre la voie à grande vitesse entre la France, l'Allemagne, la Suisse et le Luxembourg. Les 300 kilomètres de voie déjà construits entre Paris et Beaudrecourt en Lorraine constituent le premier maillon d'une ligne ferroviaire européenne longue de 1.500 kilomètres, destinée à relier Paris et Bratislava via Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Munich et Vienne.

    [06] Meglena Kuneva celebrates World Consumer Day

    Today the European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Meglena Kuneva marked World Consumer Day in Berlin, with an appeal for a free and informed debate on consumer rights in the digital world. She said that this debate would touch on fundamental rights at the heart of consumer policy and that it was too important to be left to discussions behind closed doors. The Commissioner attended the German Presidency conference on "Challenges and opportunities in a digitalised world". A major consultation to modernise core EU consumer protection laws is a central element of the new EU consumer policy strategy for 2007-2013, adopted on March 13th. The new EU consumer strategy will strive to empower Europe's consumers, by creating the right market conditions for them to be able to make informed, considered and rational choices ; to enhance the economic and non-economic welfare of Europe's consumers, in terms of price, choice, quality and affordability; and to protect consumers from market failures effectively. World Consumer Day was also marked by an extensive programme of activities and events organised by the network of the Commission-sponsored "European Consumer Centres" (ECCs) across Europe.

    [07] Twelve inventors nominated for Europe's top innovation prize

    Twelve European inventors have been nominated today for the second edition of the European Inventor of the Year Awards, which will be presented on 18 April 2007. Finalists for the award, instituted by the EU Commission and the European Patent Office (EPO), have been selected by an independent international jury. The nominations cover four categories : Industry, SMEs/Research, Inventors from Non-European Countries and Lifetime Achievement. One in each category will receive the European Inventor of the Year Award on 18 April 2007 from EU Commissioner Günter Verheugen and EPO President Alain Pompidou at a gala event in Munich.

    [08] Policy makers focus on craft and small enterprises

    The 4th European Conference "Challenges and opportunities for craft and small enterprises in the European Single Market" will show the vitality and the importance of this sector for the European economy. It will concentrate on three crucial topics: skills for the future, developing new markets and improving the business environment against the background of globalisation, demographic change and technological developments. Conference conclusions are expected to be adopted at the end of the deliberations. The conference is organised by the European Commission and will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, on 16-17 April 2007. High-level representatives will be present, including Angela Merkel, President of the EU Council, Commission Vice President Günter Verheugen, Michael Glos, German Minister for Economics and Technology, and Günther H. Oettinger, Prime Minister of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.

    [09] European Union deploys Election Observation Mission to Nigeria for General Elections

    The European Commission is deploying an EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the general elections in Nigeria scheduled to take place on 14 and 21 April 2007. The EU EOM is led by Max van den Berg (Netherlands), Member of the European Parliament. The EOM is a further contribution by the European Commission to supporting democracy in Nigeria.

    Euro area annual inflation was 1.8% in February 2007, unchanged compared with January. A year earlier the rate was 2.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.3% in February 2007. EU annual inflation was 2.1% in February 2007, unchanged compared with January. A year earlier the rate was 2.2%. Monthly inflation was 0.3% in February 2007. These figures come from Eurostat.

    [11] Quatrième trimestre 2006 par rapport au quatrième trimestre 2005 : les coûts de la main-d'œuvre ont augmenté de 2,4% dans la zone euro ; hausse de 2,7% dans l'UE25

    Le coût horaire total de la main-d'œuvre dans la zone euro (ZE12) a augmenté à un rythme annuel de 2,4% en termes nominaux au quatrième trimestre 2006, contre 2,5% au trimestre précédent. Dans l'UE25, la hausse annuelle a été de 2,7% au quatrième trimestre 2006, contre 3,0% au trimestre précédent. Les deux principales composantes des coûts salariaux sont les salaires et traitements, et les coûts non salariaux. Dans la zone euro, les salaires et traitements ont augmenté à un taux annuel de 2,5% au quatrième trimestre 2006 et les coûts non salariaux à un taux de 2,2%, contre respectivement 2,7% et 2,2% au troisième trimestre 2006. Dans l’UE25, les salaires et traitements ont connu une hausse de 2, 8% au quatrième trimestre 2006, et les coûts non salariaux de 2,3%. Ces données sont publiées par Eurostat.
