[02] Avian influenza in Russia and Kazakhstan : import of feathers and live
birds banned
The European Commission has asked Member States to implement a ban on all
imports of feathers and live birds from Russia and Kazakhstan with
immediate effect, due to confirmed outbreaks of Avian Influenza (AI) in
these countries. Russia and Kazakhstan have been added to the list of nine
Asian countries (Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, China, Vietnam, North
Korea, Pakistan and Malaysia) not allowed to export birds, their meat or
products to the EU because of AI. No ban is necessary for eggs, poultry
meat or meat products on this occasion, as there is no trade between Russia
and Kazakhstan and the EU in these products. The Standing Committee on the
Food Chain will review the decision when it meets in September.

[03] Commission approves acquisition of Philips Monitors' business by TPV
The European Commission has, under the EU Merger Regulation, approved the
proposed acquisition by Hong Kong based TPV Technology Limited (TPV) of
Dutch Royal Philips Electronics NV's businesses active in the sale of
computer monitors and flat screen televisions to Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) customers (Philips Monitors). After examining the
operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not
significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area or
any substantial part of it.
[04] Commission opens probe into restructuring aid for Kliq in The
Netherlands
The European Commission has opened a formal investigation under EC Treaty
state aid rulesinto restructuring aid for KG Holding N.V. (Kliq) in The
Netherlands. The probe will allow the Commission to obtain more information
on the measure and give an opportunity for interested third parties to give
their comments. The Commission will then finalise its assessment of whether
the measure is likely to cause undue distortion of competition within the
Single Market.
