[01] La Commission et la République du Tchad signent un programme de
coopération d'un montant de €202 millions
La Commission européenne et le gouvernement de la République du Tchad ont
signé aujourd'hui à N'Djamena un document "stratégie-pays" - programme de
coopération pour la période 2002-2007 - d'un montant de €202 millions.
L'allocation de ces fonds non-remboursables provient du 9e Fonds européen
de développement (FED). Le Commissaire chargé du développement et de l'aide
humanitaire, M. Poul Nielson, a déclaré que ce programme constituait "une
nouvelle étape dans les relations entre le Tchad et l'UE dans le cadre de
l'Accord de Partenariat signé à Cotonou le 23 juin 2000 entre la Communauté
européenne et les pays ACP. Les fonds sont destinés à la réalisation
d'objectifs prioritaires tels que la lutte contre la pauvreté, la
démocratisation et le renforcement de l'Etat de droit".
[02] Commission earmarks €8 million in humanitarian aid for victims of the
war in Angola
The European Commission has adopted a new global plan covering 2002 to
provide continuing humanitarian support for victims of the war in Angola.
€8 million will be channelled by the Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) through
partner organisations and international agencies operating in the country.
[03] EU-Mercosur Civil Society Forum - Brussels (12/02)
The European Commission is organising a conference on 12 February (10-17
hrs) at the Charlemagne building (170 rue de la Loi) in Brussels, with
representatives from the European civil society, business community and
academic community, in order to discuss and exchange views on the EU-
Mercosur and EU-Chile association negotiations. The aim of this conference -
which is the second one of its kind - is to assure the continuity of this
important dialogue between the representatives from civil society and the
main EU negotiators as regards the state of affairs of the negotiations and
to have an exchange of views. Participants of the conference shall have the
opportunity to present their positions and to submit documentation.

[04] Franz Fischler to visit Belgium Food Fair Agribex
Franz Fischler, European Commissioner for Agriculture Fisheries, and Rural
Development will be visiting the Agribex agricultural symposium in
Heysel/Brussels on Wednesday 13 February. The Commissioner is scheduled to
take part in a discussion at the VILT-Symposium on integration of
sustainable growing techniques at 14h25 in Hall 11. The symposium addresses
the question "Can the integration of organic farming techniques, classic
farming techniques, and biotechnology lead to sustainable agriculture ?" Mr
Fischler will then undertake a brief tour of the fair, visiting the pigs
section and the Commission stand, before attending a press conference in
the VIP room at 15h00. The main language will be English, with simultaneous
