[01] Euro-zone and EU15 GDP up by 0.7% ; +3.4% compared to the third quarter of 1999(! embargo 12 am !) The euro-zone and EU15 GDP both grew by 0.7% during the third quarter of 2000, compared to the previous quarter, according to first estimates published today by Eurostat. These figures follow a rise of 0.8% and 0.9% respectively for the euro-zone and the EU15, in the second quarter of 2000. Compared to the third quarter of 1999, GDP in the euro-zone and the EU15 rose by 3.4% (+3.7% and +3.6% respectively in the second quarter). The US economy grew also by 0.7% in the third quarter, compared with 1.4% in the previous quarter.[02] Commission approves euro 10 billion aid for SaxonyThe European Commission has approved an Operational Programme (OP) for economic and social development in the German Land of Saxony. This new programme aims to create 32,000 new jobs, maintain 55,000 others, and to provide 316,000 people with training designed to improve their qualifications. It forms part of the Community Support Framework for German regions eligible for Objective 1 of the Structural Funds. The European Union will contribute euro 4.858 billion to this programme. This contribution will go towards a total of almost euro 10 billion between 2000 and 2006, of which euro 2.3 billion will come from the German public sector and euro 4.1 billion from private investors.[03] La Commission propose un registre pour l'exploitation du domaine ".eu"La Commission européenne a adopté aujourd'hui une proposition en vue de la création d'un registre pour l'exploitation du domaine internet de premier niveau ".eu". Cette proposition est une étape cruciale dans la création du domaine de premier niveau ".eu" sur l'internet dans la mesure où le registre proposé constituera l'organe qui exploitera le domaine dans la pratique.
